Rear Loader on a Contaminated Recycling Route - LA Sanitation

A few of you might remember Kevin's video of these trucks in the Valley collecting recycling bins as well as conducting surveys for contamination. These Ambassadors are sent all over the city whenever certain neighborhoods have rising contamination rates. Usually the regular recycling driver of this area tags the cans if it's full of trash, if it isn't then obviously he'll collect it no problem.

The problem with residents that don't have enough knowledge of how to separate their trash is that anything that's paper, cardboard or a bottle they automatically think it is recycling. It makes sense but residents need to also consider that if it's actually clean meaning; no stains, markings, grease and rinsed out then it's truly recycling. It's funny too because most of these cans have stickers showing you how to do it but looks like the sticker is just there for display in these cases.

Hopefully this neighborhood gets better at sorting, most residents complain when their can isn't collected but they don't realize it was intentional.

Thanks for watching!

Funny seeing this uploaded. They've been surveying my neighborhood for contamination in the recycling bins too. During the past two weeks I've had Ford rear loaders collecting segments of my neighborhood and I've seen lots of recycling bins get tagged. Just shows how much of a problem contamination is in the city. Thanks for the great footage!

Nice video. I deal with the same crap on my routes, people think anything made of plastic is recyclable, or just mix trash in, they just don't care.

Is this a full time program? It looks like you guys have the first videos up of it. I'm wondering how they narrow down and choose the streets on the route cause I'm assuming the routes have to be at least 1000 stops

Man so contaminated may as well just dump them as trash or leave the ones that are contaminated for the trash guy
