What Happened in World Cup Qualifying

Qualifying for the World Cup 2022 in Qatar has (almost) reached its peak, with multiple continents sending a swath of teams to the world cup or final round of qualifiers to be played in March. A host of countries that were not major contenders for automatic World Cup spots a few months ago now have guaranteed their trip to Qatar in 2022 or are on their way to a shock qualifying run.

It’s these dark horses that I, and any right-minded person, am obsessed with. But, I have tracked every game of world cup qualifying to tell you the craziest moments, the surprise twists and turns, and the unsung heroes from some corner of the world you weren’t paying attention to because you trusted me to pay attention to it. The World Cup will be here any minute and these teams will be here (and some big names won’t).

I'm no sure if you've heard of this Zealand, but the Algerian FA actually accused the Burkinabé team of witchcraft because they brought a priest of a shaman or whatever to do blessings or something, and the Akgerian team hurried and brought in an Imam to do an exorcism on the pitch. African football is objectively the best in the world.

Ghana Vs SA is under investigation for match fixing. It's a big deal here in Belgium since their coach is a Belgium Legend. 84% of decision were in Ghana's favour and 64% of them were wrong (FIFA only allows a 15% margin of error).

CONCACAFs best match was definitely Panama (3) vs Honduras (2). Panama went down 2 goals early but then scored 3 goals in the final 10 minutes of the game to pull out a win

As a Canadian that attended the game at the "Iceteca" let me tell you, that was the best atmosphere I've ever seen.

Even better than a Hockey game which might be sacrilegious to say.

Funny facts I wanted to leave here:

- Iraq’s coach Dick Advocaat didn’t want to coach Iraq anymore, Iraq wants him tough but it’s really unlikely he will continue.
- UAE has Bert van Marwijk as a coach, Bert was also the coach of the Netherlands in 2010 that shocked the world by reaching the final of the World Cup. Bert surely knows how to not lose haha.
- Ghana - South Africa is still under investigation and might be played again although there is not much space/time in the calendar
- I love how you say Doctor Congo, a bit off topic tough…
- Niger won 7-2 against Djibouti, Adebayor Zakari Adje scored a hattrick (I don’t know if it is really special since Algeria won 8-0 against Djibouti)

Can’t wait for the second video Z. Wanna hear you talk about Serbia’s qualification. That win against Portugal meant the world to us. It’s the single greatest memory I have of our national team, as all they’ve ever done before is let us down.

Awesome video. Just one quick note on D.R Congo vs Benin. Congo made 4 pauses for substitution. Fifa only allows 3. Benin FA went to court for that. D.R Congo could lose points, meaning that Porto-Novo might be celebrating anytime soon

Canada being top of the CONCACAF table of WCQ was, at no point, on my 2021 Soccer Bingo Card. Neither was getting 4 points off our two games against Mexico. Hell, I'd have thought a loss away and a draw at home would have been satisfying. Canada playing this well has been both surprising as hell and fun as all get-go!

This is superb video I like looking around of other continent's qualifiers and talk non sense to myself as well. I felt good watching the video and listened everything to understand wait a little and I will start talking myself about this again! Jamaica was unlucky how zambia could not get to the play offs am I remembering wrong that they were doing really well asia is complete mystery to me hard to watch their games from good ol Americas!
