A HARD DAYS NIGHT OPENING CHORD

Guitarists have wondered what the opening chord was to A HARD DAYS NIGHT by THE BEATLES. We all play our own version of it. Randy Bachman recently had access to the original tapes at Abbey Road studios. He was able to finally tell us guitar players what the chord was. Keith Smart plays the three components of the chord. Since posting this clip I received a few e mails regarding John's chord. One person claims he played DM7 suss 4, another claims he played F add 9. I did get one thing wrong!! John plays his Gibson J160E, not as I said, Rickenbacker 325. This is good though, it is what makes the internet cool. Thank you for your e mails.

This clip has only been up one day, and I have already received a message from someone saying the John chord is wrong! He told me that John plays F ADD 9 at the start. I just thought I would add this information for you. I have a feeling we will never know what the chord is.

it' also been said that John's guitar fell accidentally on the ground while hitting Paul's knee thus creating the heavenly sound George Martin immediately picked upon, which later inspired him to write the final chord on "a day in the life".Try to work that one too

Yep I think you have it nailed. I have always played G13 as a one-guitar get-around.

Wow, John Lennon would look like you if he hadn't died.

it's an F with a G on the 1ste string ! and it's George playing it on a 12 string guitar !

I just play the G7sus4 chord and it sounds exactly the same

Not bad, but you also need to add a piano playing an F chord, with an added G note, and a low-volume acoustic guitar doubling that.

Its close but its not right the original thing sounds different.

If it's true Lennon played a D, why does he play a F/G live, as evidenced in live video from '64?
