Thank you very much for the lap Misha, was a pleasure meeting you and Lapo and doing a lap. Upon further investigation, the cause of the body roll is either the fact that you have 100kg of useless weight in the passenger seat 🤣 since the car is corner balanced for driver only without a passenger and a passenger seat or the fact that the suspension might be a bit too low (also in part due to the 100kg of useless weight), hence the rubbing which doesn't really happen when I go out on track. As always, rarely everything goes right when being on the track and I will be back next year with more power, aero and an even better suspension setup. I hope everybody enjoys the lap.

P.S. My facial expressions are priceless, during the lap I thought I had none.

The body roll isn’t always because the springs are too soft. Often times, if you lower a car below its intended CG without changing other components (like roll centre and bump steer correction) you will get more body roll. The owner needs to go to a proper Motorsport shop to get it dialed in. It could be something as simple as stiffer anti-roll bars, but you have to consider all the mods done to change alignment characteristics.

Re: body roll, according to Pieter Zeelie, who modified his 800hp + MR2 to a time attack monster, the limiting factor in the suspension is the MacPherson strut in the rear. So he engineered a double wishbone.

I got to ride in a friend’s MR2 Spyder with the 1ZZ and drive it with the 2ZZ (can’t remember what transmission was used). What a freaking world of difference! Car felt abnormally mellow and unexciting with the 1ZZ which is essentially the same engine in basic Corollas from that era. 2ZZ feels meant to be but I understand the whole Lotus thing.

Amazing and underrated cars! I wish I got to experience it more, but it sure had a fun factor in the twisties similar to my NA6 Miata (where even nowhere near the limits it is entertaining). Reminded me of a mix between my MX-5 and the old AP1 S2000 I had, probably the 8k rpm 6000+ rpm lift 2ZZ engine note and character. I want one!! Glad to see on this channel hopefully he comes back more dialed in, he seems to want to 👏

cool to see a 2zz spyder being strung out on the ring.
owning one i can see the lack of power on the straights but overall fast corners from how light they are can just carry speed.

This 2zz ge is the toyota vtec. Lift kicks in around 6k rpm gotta really rev this engine to keep it in power band but somehow seems this one kicks in later around 7k

Would love to see a mark2 MR2 (1990-99) on the channel. K swap and 2gr v6 swap are popular choices now, but original 3sgte (especially later revisions) can scoot as well.

I had a JDM MR-S (MR2) a couple of years ago, it only had the stock 1zz engine - but man, I loved that car. It looked great in white with black OZ F1 wheels and factory TRD bodykit.

So, owner was right it has short ratio 6MT aka Toyota C64, based on 1st/2nd/3rd max speed at 8000rpm.

Or maybe Toyota C60, since those two shared the first 5 gears with exception of C64 has 250kph max speed at 6th, while C60 can theoretically goes 280kph.

Also, it never went to 6th. 😅

You need to drive a 2gr swapped mr2 I think you will appreciate the power band in that chassis

It looks like a swap header with the stock or stock style midpipe. Change that to a proper header and pick up 20whp. I dynoed 154whp with MWR swap header and stock midpipe. Changed to ppe and made 176whp

I owned a 2zz celica with 6 gears. The car was super fun to drive although heavy for that engine. Surprisingly also I went through 2 different engines, seems everyone blow these engines up. go figure.

I've commented before on the previous MRS/MR2 Spyder video that Misha drove, I learned watching Gears and gasoline when Ben Lin built his MRS/MR2 Spyder, the front has a lot of chassis flex and when Ben had the roll cage built, they re-enforced the front end of the chassis with what looked like a tube cross member welded across the front of some sort. 2ZZ is I'm hearing an expensive swap today?

Watching the speed and the rpm drops of each gear change, the gearing is actually not that long. The ratios are closely spaced, I think the motor just lacks power. Or maybe the rev range where there is enough power is just too short.

Or maybe Honda K series is the answer 😅

Nice to see an MR2 on this channel again. MR2 repping. Not Bulgarian, but I live there :)

You can really see why lotus supercharged this engine. It really just needs more oomf everywhere.

For those who says it's slow.... well I was wondering why. My 2zz lift kicks in at 6k rpm, but Lotus has his lift set to 6.700 rpm unfortunately and you can even hear it that it kick in pretty late. All the uphils are under lift and under the lift it is basically 1zz engine what makes if there would be better transmittion and Toyota ECU it would be way way better.

Misha, please get more MR2s in different variations including k series turbo as well as 2gr etc proper suspension/tires.

you should show the temp gage so we can get a sense of how heatsoaked the block can get and how fast, y'know, to ballpark an illustration on reliability.
