In addition, for the first time, the family of John Wilkes Booth is releasing 60 boxes of sealed family documents and allowing a DNA test that may hold the answers to whether he truly died in a fire following the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, or if he faked his death as many believe.

Met a pilot who was in that squadron at the time. The flight leader had been transfered into their unit from an instructor slot because he repeatedly got lost leading student navigation exercises. No one was surprised when he got lost on an overwater flight.

Fun fact
There are more airplanes in the ocean, than submarines in the sky….

My father was a naval aviator and pilot of one of the TBM aircraft searching for the lost squadron. He had no use for "Bermuda Triangle" myths. He said that with the radio and navigation equipment of the time it was not at all unusual for planes to disappear over the ocean. He also said that PBMs had a problem with leaky fuel tanks and all to often exploded in flight.

In my heart I always wanted Flt 19 to end of mission the way Speilberg depicted at Devils Tower in Wyoming.

This airplane had a catastrophic end? Yeah... well... no airplane that goes to the bottom of the ocean in the middle of nowhere had a great end.

I was a young sailor in Aircraft Crash and Rescue stationed at Master Jet base Oceana Va 1n 1962. Our unit received a report of a WW2 naval aircraft wreckage was found in the Dismal swamp South of our air base near the Atlantic Coast. The aircraft and the Aircrews skeletal remains I.D checked out to one of the planes from flight 19. This is what I was told at the time.

Imagine how many planes and shipwrecks there are. If you could drain out all of the oceans and walk the ocean floor. That would be wild looking. No telling what we would find. Isn't there only a few percent of the ocean that has actually been discovered? There could be something sinister under there for all we know.

Stormy weather in Bermuda triangle affects the compass.

They have found many crashed Avengers around the Florida coast. None of the aircraft serial numbers trace back to flight 19.

I’ll wait for it to be announced on the news….because it WILL be big news if they actually found those planes.

I've been a fan of the Paranormal and especially the saga of flight 19 since I was a kid kawa in the early 90s I remember watching this very Stark and bleak documentary about it that was probably from the late 70s, and it featured a animated sequence of very haunting still drawings that represented the pilots in complete Agony and fear as the infamous radio chatter of "we cannot see land, our compasses are out, we don't know which way we're going, " played over the images, Does anyone know what documentary that would have been from?

What I am wondering about is why was one of the planes short one crew member? 5 planes, each one with a full crew of 3 = 15, but only 14 men were lost. Did Georgie Paonesa miss the flight and survive because he was never present to begin with?
