Never use hot water on your skin or hair in general. It let's out all the moisture, it stresses your skin and your skin gets dry and your hair frizzy. Only use warm water

The sebum is what makes your pores look bigger. Warm water melts it pretty quickly and the cold water tightens your skin afterwards. That gives it the look where your pores have shrunk.

I use warm water, not because it "opens up the pores" which isn't possible, but I just feel like it does a better job of removing the muck on mu face and also, I hate the feeling of cold water on my face.

Doesn't the warmer the water you use, the drier your skin gets? I feel like you'll need to really moisturize your skin afterwords to prevent any breakouts. And dermatologists have said that pores actually don't "open" or "close" with just water

Unfortunately the pore idea does not work like that.
I wish it does since it would make life easier. But, if the girls are on about thermodynamics then they would be somewhat on the right line.
However, I am not an expert, so do keep that in mind.
