Having read all three Marriott biographies, plus the memoirs of his bandmates Frampton, Shirley, Jones and McLagan, what I came away with is that Steve was a musical prodigy and genius, but was also a deeply troubled man. He could be difficult to work with but could also be kind and supportive to the other musicians. Although he could be horrible at times, I believe most greatly admired, respected and even loved him. As Peter wrote in his memoir:
"I wish he hadn't been crazy, but then maybe he wouldn't have been so hugely talented - you can't change one part of someone without losing the other. Everyone put up with it because of his talent" Also -"Steve would always make my jaw drop - harp playing, his great bluesy guitar - but his voice, oh my God." To insinuate that Peter, ever the gentleman, would say mean things about Steve is an insult to both of them. Look closely at the tee shirt he wears on the cover of his solo album "Frampton". Wearing Steve's face on his shirt shows me the great respect Peter had for his mentor. God bless Steve, Peter and the Pie....

Peter frampton says nothing but good things about Marriott stating Steve was the greatest vocalists ever and a great guitarist but Steve could be difficult anyone in the same band as Steve would be second fiddle he was a born leader frontmen, Rip Steve, Greg,

I saw Humble Pie live in Houston on the 1971 tour that resulted in the Live At the Fillmore album. It was one of the greatest hard rock shows I've ever seen. Unbelievable power. Frampton was brilliant. Marriott was one of the greatest hard rock vocalist that ever lived.

The biggest problem in Steve Marriott's life and career was the London Mob basically owned the Small Faces to Humble Pie to Marriott's personal life right up to his untimely death in that tragedy end in that fire at his home on 04/20/91. As to the London Mob(the Kray Brothers) the American Mob(John Gotti)took over the unseen back story to Marriott's life and career. No one was involved in Marriott's tragic but accidental death. At the time of his death Marriott and Frampton were discussing putting a Humble Pie reunion together with a new album and tour. What might of been? R.I.P. Steve 🎸🎤 🙏

I saw Humble Pie after Peter Frampton left and Steve was excellent, the whole band were. I did go to see Peter Framptom when his band were called Framptons Camel but their gear never turned up. I never got another chance.
It was such a pity Steve had issues, he was a great performer, I class him among the top five volcalists, in fact hes possibly the best I've seen and he was no slouch as a guitarist either.
Sad to see Peter having to retire due to ill health too.

Steve Marriott and Terry Reid, for me the two best British vocalists.

I always think if Peter Grant could have got Steve’s contract off Don Arden (Peter used to work for Don) Steve would have made the money he deserved.Think about it Peter would have had arguably the top three vocalists on Swan Song in Plant, Rogers and Marriott, all keeping one another on their toes and creating an ever bigger commercial pull for the label on both sides of the Atlantic .Hindsight is a wonderful thing of course 😂

Loved the Pie, but have to admit they were even better when Frampton left, and Clem Clemson took over

I almost didn't want to watch this because I couldn't possibly pick a side. They are both Hall of Fame Rock Stars.

I had the privilege to see Humble Pie 4 times in the 70's in Dallas, Tx. Frampton was with the band the first time I seen them. They toured a lot and most the times I seen them they were the opening act. Same with Foghat. They toured a lot and most times they were the opening act. I seen Frampton in Dallas too after he went solo and was making his Frampton Comes Alive LP. He was actually the opening act. The James Cotton Band followed him and Johnny Winter was the headliner. Great show. I was there at the time to mainly see Johnny Winter, one of my guitar hero's.

In 1970, I hitched 50 miles after school to see Humble Pie at Fillmore West, San Francisco (...as 3rd bill opening act)....and got in the door as just as they were finishing their last encore song ....I was bummed and so pissed.

I think you are over stating the tension between Steve and Peter. Their manager knew the big money in America was with the hard rock, which is usually where Steve’s personality stood out. Peter had a hard time getting his softer songs on the albums. After the live album Peter left, and there were no hard feelings.
