Hey, new to your channel! Very nice willys! I believe that I recognized the area, was that Hyner lookout you guys were at? My familys camp is about a 30 min. drive from there. I have a 1976 CJ7 that im working on and would love to go for rides like this!

What is your experience with cops driving with no doors in PA? I’m from NW PA, but my wife I military and we haven’t lived in PA for over 20 years now. She’s retiring soon and we are moving back home. I have a ‘55 Willys CJ5A and never thought about it, but I’m hearing that stupid PennDOT requires doors to be on a vehicle to be “legal”. I guess the law says something about (paraphrasing) if the vehicle came with doors when new then it’s required by law to have doors. Well, as all Willys folks knows our vehicles weren’t offered by default with doors….they were an option. I dislike dealing with cops because they rarely know the laws, they just go by what they think is the law or really, they just make stuff up. Don’t even get me started on the “tires extending beyond the fender” crap either! It makes me so angry! PA’s laws in general suck, although being able to run a vintage license plate is pretty cool….but aside from that the PA laws blow. Makes me wish we weren’t moving back home. Anyhow, have you been bothered by a cop for having no doors on your old Willys?

I’m imagining that if I eventually get pulled over for having no doors and I tell the cop “This Jeep is too old, it didn’t come with doors” then I’ll get the standard “Well, it’s the LAW” response.

I went through this during a firearm purchase back home. My drivers license (PA) is “expired”….but it’s PA state law that since I’m the spouse of an active duty service member that the state of PA recognizes the license as valid even though it’s expired, so long as we are out of the state and she is still serving (which she is). If we go back home for an extended period of time (can’t remember how long exactly) then we have to renew the licenses. Anyhow, I was buying a handgun and during the call from the FFL to PA state police my FFL mentioned that my ID was expired but that according to state law it isn’t due to the wife being military. Well, long story short the PA state police didn’t know about it and didn’t give a crap about the law and I couldn’t purchase the gun until I went and renewed my ID. Effing BULL. Anyhow, forgive the long story. I hate dealing with cops. 😅
