Stair treads minimize slipping and increase traction. Great for pets and pet owners! They help extend the life of your high traffic hardwood stairs. We will show you how easy it is to install them in your home.
You will need the following materials: Clean Damp Cloth. Scissors, tape measure. Double sided Carpet tape (provided with your stair tread order)
First prep the area. Clean all of the stairs with a clean damp cloth. Wait for the surface to dry.
Once the surface is dry, place the stair tread on the step with the back facing upwards. Then use the top of the step as a guide to cut the double sided tape to size. The tape should be near the short end of the carpet tread. About a 1/2 inch.
Once the carpet tape is cut, place the tape near the long edge of the tread. About 1/2 inch away from the long edge. Repeat this on the opposite side of the stair tread. Press down on carpet tape to better secure.
Once the tape is secured peel the film from the tape.
Flip the carpet tread over a gently, set the carpet tread on the step. Do not press down yet. Use a measuring tape to help center the tread. Measure between 0.5 -1 inch away from the front edge of the step. Remeasure to make sure tread is centered before securing. Flip the tread over. Press along the long side when the tape was placed to secure the carpet tread.
Repeat the process until you have attached all of your custom stair treads.

A double sided carpet tape is the best option. 3M makes a sturdy tape as well as ULINE. We provide a tape with every stair tread order!

Thanks for adding leading edge carpet set back measure suggestion. Any recommendations of tape to use for folks who have their own carpet bound locally?

I'm confused. You say to "Center the pad" but there is no space at the BACK of the pad when placed, so it is NOT centered? Also, how much side showing is standard? 3 inches, 4, or more?

So...the carpet tape gums up the scissors and then you can't cut it. So then you end up fighting with it which results in a ball of stuck-together unusable tape and you say bad words. Doing 11 stairs is going to take all day and be extremely frustrating. Wish I'd never even thought of starting this project.
