The first republic already declared independence in 1898 before the Philippine-American war. And Japanese and Germany supported the Philippine revolution thats why many firearms used by the first republic was German made and Japanese empire, Chinese, Thai, Mexicans and Argentinians volunteered to help the Philippine government y sending troops.

Imagine the Filipinos speaking 4 languages. Tagalog, English, Spanish and Nihongo if the president did not change it to use English as their 2nd language we would be speaking fluent Japanese(nihongo)

As a Filipino, I would rather stay and be “Spanish” then America, since even if the Spanish left by 1900 or have developed a peace between Spaniards and Filipinos, we can now finally be an independent country and that’s it. Now that America has took over which basically added more to the 333 years of Spanish oppression and even if we’re now “independent” USA still has a huge control and influence in our country so that’s why we are always caught up between America’s problems and get involve in her wars.

125 years later, we’re still not fully at peace. Especially with China. Atleast with speaking Spanish and Tagalog (and other Philippines languages) our history which our nation which was formed in those languages will never be blurred out and get lost in English translation. A lot of Filipinos today don’t know so much about their history.
