As a modder yes, this is used in basically every mod that you can find with "hitscan" weapons along with a lot of other types of weapons, including projectiles from NPC's. It's much easier just to give the illusion that a projectile is hitscan and using "extraUpdates = [number]" is a lot more convenient and reliable than any other method, it doesn't just increase the projectiles velocity but the way the projectile works completely. You see this in things such as bullet types that go insanely fast like the HV bullets in vanilla, if you take a clone of the water bolt for example, all you have to do is add an extra 0 to extraUpdates function and it will look like a super fat, near hitscan beam of water that will play multiple sound effects in a near instantaneous timeframe

this makes perfect sense as this is one of the easiest ways to code a constant velocity ball that bounces
