NEW Ship Speeds EXPLAINED in Sea of Thieves (Full & Complete Guide)

In this video I show you all the new ship speed changes in the latest update for Sea of Thieves! I compare them to previous speeds and give insight and observation on what that means for the new speeds. We tested the three ships against each other on a custom server so we could see how they compare. At the very end of the video

as a solo sloop, managed to outrun a brig by sailing against the wind for the first time in a long time. Felt good.

I always thought that the ship speeds now takes their weight and mass into consideration.

The lighter the hull, the higher the acceleration, hence why the sloop wins in the first leg.

I also believe that -overall- every ship is faster than before and only the relation was changed. The new maximum sloop speed feels like the old brigantine speed. I could just be imagining it, but I swear getting from place A to B on a sloop feels much better now.

I would be interested to see the behaviour of the brig into the wind with the front sail raised up. There is a world where this would reduce wind resistance and make it quicker. It probably won't work but I'll test it out when I have a chance

I dont care how unlikely it is to happen, but we need another ship type or two, and I'd love the option of jib sails cosmetic or otherwise

what does dummy sails mean? do you have to angle your sails to the side for most speed into the wind now

One thing I'd be curious to see tested/implemented is whether water in the hull slows the boats at all? For instance if a Galleon has the lower deck flooded, or a Sloop has water in the hull, does that, should it not affect the speed of the boat? We can see with Skeleton ships, especially the Galleon that after you've punched a few holes and it has taken on water that it bogs right down. Having water in the hull forces a boat to run deeper and a bit slower. It would be curious when you hit that keg in the test whether your relative speed to the other two ships fell off.

thank you. i needed this info to solo sloop again. i was wondering why a gally was catching me against the wind. now i know that i can sail in a normal fashion and make better movements.

I think a small change has to be made by making the brig the fastest in side wind, that way every ship excells at a certain thing:
Sloops against the wind
Galleons with tailwind
Brigs with Sidewind

When I first started playing I assumed the sloop would be the fastest overall because it's the smallest therefore less weight that needs to be moved. Unfortunately I was wrong lol
