Im living in australia and I went there since my gf is living there. It was really lovely place! Weather is calm and nice. Food is always tasty. People are really nice and kind.

My husband and I are fixing to visit my brother and his wife in Christchurch. They have lived there for a good 10 years now. I live in San Diego, so it's a way to visit him. He loves it there and says he will never come back to the states to live.

Like any where in the world, there will always be areas that may be run down. When you are next in Christchurch, look around the western, northern, southern areas and also out skirts towards Selwyn

I always enjoy seeing people travelling around my home town and hearing their views of the city. There does seem to be an increase in industrial looking buildings outside the 4 Avenues, but the surrounding small towns not far outside of Christchurch are quite nice to visit for a change. 🙂

Wow! That's incredibly surprising to hear. I think the east side of Christchurch is the only "rougher" area really. Little pockets here in there not as nice, but overall I find the city pretty nice all around- not rough at all. Shocking to hear Christchurch being describe that way, and a first! Especially coming from the US. Some of our "mid" areas are as nice as the "bad" areas of Chch.

The west side of the city is nice though. Driving from the airport to the central city is lovely - the houses are attractive and there are lots of trees and parks along the way. So not all areas of the city look run down
