Peter Gabriel - Scratch My Back

Scratch My Back is the first part of Peter Gabriel’s song-swap project.

Originally conceived as a reciprocal arrangement that would be released as one album it was Peter’s half that arrived first, in 2010, featuring his orchestral interpretations of some of his favourite songs. It was titled Scratch My Back.

The second part, featuring artists covering Peter’s songs was aptly named And I’ll Scratch Yours and followed in 2013.

The project also led to the New Blood album where Peter Gabriel re-recorded some of his own songs with an orchestra.

Through his voice and music comes the deepest humanism that can live inside a man. We do not have to know him in person to sense that the private and artistic side of his life make a rare combination of truth, kindness, openness, understanding, sensitivity and talent of its purest kind. From time to time it is healing to have his music. A couple of years ago it was such a magnificent experience to take part in his Budapest concert. His and the band's passion for music sparkled all through that evening and his voice got a certain patina of an older person who didn't want to outshine that of his younger days but added an extra bit, let's say, the perfect shade of calmness that can open the most inner gates of a soul.
I know he is a soul opener. God bless him for that and everyone who formed his life to be like that.

I first saw Peter Gabriel as lead singer of Genesis in 1974 at Ford Auditorium during this “Selling England by the Pound” tour. It was outstanding. I’ll never forget it & now I’m 64 years old.
