The «Sortie improvisée sur Haec Dies» is an impressive piece by Pierre Cochereau (1924 - 1984). Axel Flierl (Germany) proposed it as the first piece of his concert on the Rieger organ of the Basilica of the Annunciation in Nazareth on November 26, 2014, during the first season of the Terra Sancta Organ Festival (TSOF).

Dr. Axel Flierl was born in Nuremberg in 1976 and grew up in the Allgäu. He studied organ, organ improvisation and Catholic church music in Munich and Paris as well as musicology in Karlsruhe. Formative teachers were Prof. Edgar Krapp, Wolfgang Hörlin, Prof. Thierry Escaich and Vincent Warnier. In 2006 he became the main organist and conductor to the papal basilica St. Peter to Dillingen on the Danube (Bavaria), the concathedral and second cathedral of the bishopric of Augsburg. There he initiated the international organ festival Dillinger Basilikakonzerte around the great Sandtner organ. In worship and concert he conducted the great orchestral masses and oratorios of J. S. Bach, C.P.E. Bach, Handel, Haydn, Mozart, Mendelssohn (Elias), Gounod, Fauré and Jenkins. In addition, he performed all organ works by Karl Höller (1907-1987), Franz Liszt and Maurice Duruflé. His decades of engagement with the work and person of Karl Höller he completed with a dissertation on the organ works Höllers in Karlsruhe with Prof. Dr. med. Thomas Seedorf, a hitherto unexplored chapter in German music history. Axel Flierl is considered a leading researcher to Karl Höller and interpreter in particular of his organ works. Concerts as an organ soloist and as a lecturer at master classes regularly take him to the leading organ centers in Australia, Hong Kong, USA, Russia, Abkhazia, South America, South Africa, Israel, Palestine, Iceland and almost all European countries. He also appeared artistically with radio and television recordings, several CD recordings and as a book author.
