The fact that five guys were able to cross this in a lifeboat after losing their ship over 100 years ago without technology is insane.

My mom used to cross the Drake passage on an inner tube, on her way to school as a kid. Literally the reason I’m grateful I had a ride to school.

I prefer to call this "The Straight Of Another Scary Ass Part of The Ocean I'll Never Visit".

My grandma used to cross this passage back and forth on a wooden log when going to school back in the days.

Thank you for this upload, I really appreciate you actually narrating instead of using an Ai voice like other channels.

Stranded for 500 days in Antarctica AFTER the Endurance is crushed and sinks. Absolutely amazing. It's also amazing that he ship was found 107 years later. I remember it hitting the news. Imagine being the explorer who found it.

I crossed the Drake passage on the way to and from Antarctica. It was brutal! The waves would cross over the deck. The ship lunged so far to the sides, anything not secured got bounced around or broken (like the drinking glasses in the lounge)! Thanks to God and the crew of the G Adventures tour, we made through safely. Antarctica, by the way, is simply breathtaking!!!

I recall seeing a film years ago of one of the last clipper ships sailing the Drake Passage sometime in the 1920's. Climbing the mast to handle the sails in that weather had to been brutal. Wooden ships, iron men indeed.

Shackleton's description of encountering a rogue wave during that crossing of the Passage in a little lifeboat is absolutely frightening.

0:15 I might not have had thalassophobia before, but that clip certainly makes me seriously anxious

That sheer volume of water infront of the vessel is enough send shivers..let alone the depths.

I've been through once on a princess cruise. We had really long steady 8m swells, they were long and smooth. Nearly like riding a train on metal rails. It was so smooth, our cabin was at the rear of the ship. At night it felt like being on a roller coaster. No tables, no chairs were flying around as the ship had its bow into the waves. I'll never forget the experience. I loved it, the wife hated it.

My buddy has been through it about a dozen times to Argentina and back. His wife is a researcher and he does not fly over water! He said it’s an amazing experience and sometimes there’s no waves at all just depends on the trip. He also took a boat from New York to England and back a few years ago to with his wife who was doing a study (she flew). He took a few week boat ride each way.
