I can still remember in 1977 playing this song on a jukebox in a small hometown diner while I waited for my Dad to pick me up. This song was playing and this broken-looking fella was sitting at the counter (not the bar because this was a dry county) leaning over his plate and singing along with each chorus. He darn near came to tears.
