Auralic Altair G2.1 Review w/ Upscale Audio's Kat Ourlian

Auralic has done an incredible job with the new Altair, as Kat finds out. This Roon Ready streaming DAC has a line-in, an MM phonostage, analog volume control, and many music-service options, and comes in an all-new chassis with a beautiful color screen.

This is the absolute best review of any HiFi audio product I’ve seen, read or heard anywhere! I especially appreciated her various examples of setups she experimented with (source component/Altair/speakers) and the resulting sound effect. I’m currently using the Arcam ST-60 which is a decent sounding streamer with built-in DAC, but it lacks sophistication in its functionality. I’m going to pickup this Altair G2.1, an iPad and a new ASUS router and connect it to my Parasound P6 preamp to my Parasound JC5 power amplifier to my Q Acoustics Concept 500 speakers and I’m anticipating a new level of musical bliss!

The picture of the 4 Orpheus is out of date. There are actually two modules, not 4. This was discussed in the forums. I went to my dealer and this unit is only recommended if it’s going to be used as a preamp. If rcas are used to connect to an integrated they recommended me to stick with the G1.

I own the Altair G2.1 It truly is a great product. The sound is excellent, extremely low noise floor. The DAC combined with the Class A orpheo output modules really makes this sound amazing. It does not sound like your typical digital streamer with the way its engineered. It can truly drive your amp while keeping the music playing simple. Just make sure your amp and speakers can take advantage of this unit.

I’ve read many reviews, but this is very useful to me as I own the Focal Sopra No.2’s. I was going to replace my Devialet Expert Pro 440 with the Altair G2.1 and NAD M23, but might consider the Prima Luna Evo 300 now.

I already happy owner of Aries Mini and not sure to keep it and jump to Vega or upgrade with altair. Not sure how much better can be sound with Vega compare to the comfort of having with altair a all in one unit at home, difficult choices… Tks for suggestions
