India is NOT a developing country it's a recovering country.

US policies are strange. It saw Indian as enemy during the cold war just because we chose not to ally with either of the two blocks. The Russians embraced us whole heartedly and signed a friendship treaty with India althogh India was not their ally. They never had any problem with India conducting its own policies independently.

The US equation with China is even stranger. They hated them, but were nevertheless fascinated by the Chinese and wanted them as a partner. So the US stripped its own ally Taiwan of its nationhood and transferred it to mainland China as the real China, but also kept the the ally they just stabbed in the back as its protectrate, while also recognizing the one-China policy ! They then funded China's economic rise even as they feared it's military rise.

On the eastern from of India, the US aided Pakistanis for deacdes arming them to teeth against India, knowing verey well that tehy would only these weapons and funds against India. Pakistan used the funds to build its nukes, and funded its vast terror network which has now become autonomous. The US looked the other way even as the Pakistanis unleashed decades of terror on India even as the US stopped funding them after Afghanistan.

Suddenly they realized at the beginning of this century that India can be an ally because it would be a counterweight against China, but continued ouring huge investments into China which depleted teh US of its manufacturing sector and made China the factory of the world.

Now they want India against Russia and China.

India is not an American ally (well put Mr. Sachs), Indians will not die for American causes, which is ultimately what being an ally boils down to, in this context.

Or put more realistically, America has never been India'a ally! America has sided with England to support Pakistan so where is this self righteous claim that "India is not our ally" come from? America and England supported Pakistan in the face ff against India in the Indiaan Ocean and the Russians had to send their fleet to back India up! America has itself to blame for this situation. You cant have your cake and eat it! India is also not an ally of America by America's policy choices and will never ally with America from past behaviour of American policy makers!

As per Indian government: India is not believe in alliance. India believe in partnership. There is a significant difference in both. If you allie of a big country, you bound to agree with the stance of that big country, by retracing your own interest. But in partnership you have every right to raise your opinion and you can give suggestions to your counter part.
