Hong Kong's Chief Executive Carrie Lam said that the government will "vigorously implement" a controversial new national security law imposed on the semi-autonomous Chinese territory by Beijing last week. The new legislation targets what authorities in mainland China define as secession, subversion, terrorism and collusion with foreign forces. Those violating the law could face up to life in prison. "I forewarn those radicals not to attempt to violate this law, or cross the red line, because theconsequences of breaching this law are very serious," Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam told a press conference Tuesday.
The new law has drawn international condemnation for jeopardizing Hong Kong's civil liberties enshrined under the "one country, two systems" framework, including freedom of speech and assembly. There is widespread concern that crackdowns on public dissent and free speech, similar to what is seen in mainland China, will soon be carried out in Hong Kong under the law.
Late Monday ahead of Lam's press conference, additional details of the security law were issued by the city government detailing the measures the Hong Kong police forces can take to implement the legislation. These include the sweeping authority to seize electronic devices and enterproperty without a warrant under "exceptional circumstances." Police can also freeze assets and confiscate property if there are "reasonable grounds" to suspect items are connected to offenses "endangering national security."

Most of those activists who can leave HK will eventually leave. Many foreign corporations will also leave or reduce their footprint. In time the control of information will help making “progress” achieving the avowed objective of a “harmonious society”. Many remaining former activists will look back to these days and wonder how gullible and misguided they were in resisting Big Brother. For more refer to last chapter of Orwell’s 1984.

Joshua Wong is more popular with the colonisers than in HK. Public in HK are ignoring him on the street.

People are holding blank paper. People in Hong Kong have lost their freedom of speech, which they cannot say., It seems that dark politics has come.

Wong should be in jail, the normal jail. He works for foreign politicians to make chaos in Hong Kong, not fights for HK peoples' right.

The National Security Law is not the problem. It is the riotings which are the big problems. If people demonstrate peacefully, most governments will accept it. Riotings in HK is against the rights of those who want peace and freedom to move around without being harrassed and intimidated by rioters

No mention that foreign staff and funding is normally strictly regulated even in Western countries? Those parties disbanded because they received money from the US and Australia, hence why those 2 countries are more opposed to the National Security Law than even the Extradition Treaty.
