The United States of America seeks to invite South Korea to join the 'Five Eyes' intelligence-sharing alliance, according to a report in The Korea Herald. The news comes days after a US House of Representatives panel had approved the National Defense Authorisation bill for fiscal year 2022, primarily meant to officially authorise funding for American military activities & the armed forces for the next fiscal year. This also includes the potential of continued support for intelligence sharing operations with US allies such as the 'Five Eyes' nations. Along with South Korea, three other countries — India, Japan and Germany — were proposed as possible new members. Raghav Bikhchandani tells you more about the 'Five Eyes' alliance.

Would love to see the worlds largest democracy stand with like minded freedom loving people and countries around the world, against unfortunately for now the CCP, let’s hope it changes its expansionary ways and huge military buildup, those two things are ominous for the future and strength needs to be met with strength. Either way, if India isn’t the sixth I, the country sure seems ready to stand up for what is right and that’s a great thing to know.

Excellent research and text but the delivery was monotonic, drab and frankly, robotic (candid feedback, please take it in the spirit of it) - this would have been delivered much better by Mr. Alex Philip.

Does anyone else feel, India should make a indosphere, like Britain's anglosphere or Germans germansphere, we need to think out of south Asia and take countries in south America and Oceania under our influence .

As a white Australian-born citizen I see myself more as a South Pacific then European, I feel more comfortable talking with Indian, Pakistan, Samoan, Tongan, New Zealander, Papau and all Asian nations including the Chinese people then a British or American.. let’s not burden our children with a war fought a continent away .. as a nation that was baptised in the fires of ww1 and fought in every war since then for other countries we are over it.. I would much rather spend that money on my islander brothers and sisters and watch the pacific people blossom ..

One Eye(Israel) will be controlling all these 9 eyes. This alliance is beneficial only for Westerners at the cost of India. If we don't learn from Afghan, more setbacks are expected. Better we go back to NAM policy and build very good relationship with neighbours. Saddam Hussain is the best example to be cited in this context. They aren't trustworthy. Corrections in our FP is the need of the hour.

The problem in expanding Five Eyes is that the new players, currently and historically, have held a diversity of alliances; Notable with Russia but in the case of South Korea, even inclinations towards China.

Clearly, the proposed line-up is motivated against China and understanding that this China Problem is not short-term, it raises the question of how stable and common, future alliances may remain. For example, what if South Korea and China DO hop into bed together? How is South Korea to 'un-remember' previously disclosed intelligence? On the other hand, a covert South Korea-China channel may well be useful for 'double talk' (or feeding China BS).

I expect that integrating Nine Eyes into Five Eyes will likely be the death of Five Eyes, despite its intrinsic and proven value.

If Germany, Canada and New Zealand were dropped, than a more purposeful, regionally focus sharing arrangement, may be more workable. (Have any of those 3 nations pulled their weight in the past anyway?)
