DIE! DIE! DIE!, featuring Black Francis from the Pixies, is the first single from The Residents’ forthcoming album, METAL, MEAT & BONE - The songs of Dyin’ Dog. Available, July 10, 2020.

ARMAGEDDON! RAGNAROK! THE END OF THE WORLD! While the idea of an ultimate doomsday, an unending and utter annihilation, has always intrigued The Residents, what’s an apocalypse without its ferocious point guard, its fuehrer, its yellow dog… THE BEAST!

Fanfare… raise the curtain… Hail to the Chief!

Has the casting for such an eminent role ever been more exquisite than the current occupant of the Highest Office in the Land? A ruthless and unbridled personality combined with an insatiable need for praise and validation, a black and empty soul somehow damaged beyond any concept of redemption, relentless and vainly compelled by its own unending hunger. And what could be more ironic as a cast of enablers than the unseeing masses embracing the ultimate evil so eloquently described in their own Holy Literature.

Do The Residents actually believe this doomsday scenario? As always, they will never tell, but the evidence of their interest is apparent in their newly completed music video, “DIE! DIE! DIE!” Described as both frightening and hysterically funny, the video, like the President of the United States, occupies its own category.

I got to talk to Hardy Fox in Chicago in 2011. He watched my wife and i play with these robotic spiders i would describe them as in the gift shop. Approached me about my residents shirt. My breath was literally taken.

Listening to The Residents reinterpreting the work of the late great Dyin' Dog is just wonderful. I'm sure if the great man is still around somewhere (he apparently disappeared in strange circumstances), he'd fully approve. Just makes you wonder how great Dyin' Dog might have become if he hadn't disappeared from the music business.
