He heard the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, say: "Among my followers there are people who consider sexual relations forbidden, the use of silk, the consumption of alcoholic beverages and use of musical instruments as lawful... ”

[Sahih Al-Bukhari 5590].

In this hadith he mentioned playing instruments, as well as explicit prohibitions.
