Greatest Lie? What about the movie The Never Ending Story? Its only about an hour and a half long. My attorney, Lionel Hutz, is filing a class action lawsuit.

Ok I had to verify this.... My 7 year old weather station was screwed to a tree with gold screws bought at Aldi. I pulled them out and the only rust on them was in the threads themselves. In fact I would have no problem reusing the screws. Oh and the weather station died 2 years ago and I finally removed the bracket because of your video.

Haha not gold, that's yellow zinc plating which is 3x more corrosion resistant than clear zinc coating. Hot dip galvanizing gives you the most protection

So true! Even putting them in they fricken break! Biggest headache of my super tiny 10X10 deck was the damn deck screws!

I tip my dad taught me is to dip the screws into Vaseline prior to screwing in then wipe a small amount on the recessed screw head, job done! NEVER had an issue with screws in wood outside, it literally weatherproofs them! Try it…

Triple coate #8s are my rust proof screw of choice. Self tapping too or their worthless.

Yes - they are an absolute con! The house I bought had a large deck. Now rot has affected the support structure and I'm going to have to rip up all the deck with a crowbar and multitool. Been putting that job off for years when the screw heads sheared off. I put my foot through the deck this year...oopsie.

First of all, use a normal screw machine for old screws. The torque on that machine is to high for the job. Second it depends on the wood.

Don't you have stainless Steel screws for outdoor use? Sure they are more expensive, but you don't run into issues with corroded screws and discolouration of the wood.

BS. I have no idea what a “deck screw” even is, unless it’s a brand name from some random Mnfct. With modern treated lumber the ONE AND ONLY reliable fastener is made of stainless steel. Ceramic and zinc coated screws are both attacked by the chemicals that treat the lumber and will fail in a few years. NEVER use anything rated “indoor only” in any exterior application. That’s a tragedy waiting to happen. Treated lumber - use stainless steel only.

Were those deck screws CCA tolerant?

I use bugle head deck screws all over the place, save for where there is an extensive shear loading. Some do burl up and prove difficult to get out but, that's kind of the point in using them in the first place. That said, I have next to no pressure treated material around. Nor, would I use them in pressure treated material.
