I recall driving over the Gonzalez river bridge back on Thanksgiving weekend and just seeing side to side dried earth and very dead trees. And I blurbed out to myself "wonder what it looks like when the river is full." Little did I know 2 months later ... Wow.

During heavy rains this is not uncommon. The road between Salinas and Castroville is also flooded.

Get rid of flush toilets...they waste a huge amount of potable water in times of drought, & overflow during floods. Can use composting, or gas fired.

I think where I'm at people are more sick of the public services getting in the way of things. As a community we have been through way worse natural storms than this storm. Twenty years ago we would clear the roads ourselves with few issues. Everybody I know carries a chainsaw in their truck just for these events. (And most are certified electricians).

This is how it used to be done. Preparedness, familiar with their terrain, environment. Prepared prior to any emergency
