So, I saw the touring version of this production in Pittsburgh, before it premiered on Broadway. I don't know if this little detail has been changed since the Broadway transfer, but there was a choice made in this production that I take some issue with.

One of the main points of almost every adaption of "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" is that The Wizard doesn't actually give Dorothy's friends what they're searching for, because they had what they needed all along. However, THIS VERSION goes out of its way to show that Evillene is responsible for the loss of their virtues. She even openly claims credit for it when the group finally meets her in person. The show makes it abundantly clear that the Scarecrow really doesn't have a brain in this show since he can't be mind-controlled like the others. The Tin Man suddenly is able to remember all of his loved ones and the Lion finds his courage immediately upon Evillene's death, because all of her spells were reversed when Dorothy melted her. The Wiz doesn't even get a bit of redemption by encouraging them to believe in themselves since he peaces out immediately after "Y'all Got It."

Way to miss the entire point of the story, guys! Again, I don't know if this detail was changed since the tour, but it's kind of a big deal.

Tuesday, June 11th 2024 - The WIZ ✨On Broadway 🎭 at the Marquis Theatre

🌟Phenomenal revival of the legendary classic The WIZ ✨. Ease On Down NOW! Family friendly Broadway performance. Worthy to be Tony Award 🏆 Nominee for the acting, dancing, comedy, transitional lighting, electrifying orchestra, and digital on-stage scenery for the grandeur depth in real imagination from the seats of the audience.

🌟Celebrating the ageless 🎉 Wayne Pennington Lane's 76th Birthday.🥳 I was privileged to observe and hear the fabulous Broadway revival of The WIZ ✨. We had a magical experience.

🌟The direction was executed with finesse except for the very strange costume change of Dorothy. There was a small possibility of too much dialogue in Act One. I get it, for the realization of the text.

🌟The lighting was exemplary and the set was proficient. The application of the "new media" was used with distinction.

🌟The cast was off the "hook". Every character was casted to absolute knock down, stomp out perfection.

🎭Evillene (Wicked Witch of the West), performed by Melody A. "Diva" Betts, stormed the house down with her complete Evil presence. She let everyone know with her two - and - half octave range, she was There! 🔮

🎭Lion, performed by Kyle "Roar" Ramar Freeman, thundered and scorched through the production in a wonderful and transforming Kitty Kat rendition of "Mean Ole Lion". 🦁

🎭Scarecrow, performed by Keenan D. Washington, danced the straw out of his costume and sang the roof off of Dorothy's house. 🌽

🎭Tinman, performed by Phillip Johnson Richardson, slipped and slid with an abundance of oil all across the stage. He was a man made of tin or something and delivered an oily performance of distinction. ⚙️

🎭Glinda (Good Witch of the South), performed by Deborah Cox, sparkled, dazzled, and exploded with artistry. I have only one more thing to say, "VOICE!" 🔮

🎭Dorothy, performed by Nichelle Lewis, was discovered on TikTok, a social media platform, and what a discovery it is. Ms. Lewis is a triple threat: she can dance, she can act, and beyond a shadow of a doubt, she can sing. 👠🏠👠

🎭The WIZ, performed by Wayne Brady, brought the heat of Florida all the way to the Broadway stage. He electrified and glorified the audience with his vivacious and stunning performance. Mr. Brady exuded excellence with a well thought out characterization of his role. Well done! 🌈

✨Wayne and I thoroughly enjoyed the show.🌈

I would give this production ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of 5. What I think is this version of Dorothy was better than the 1978 film version and the 2016 live TV version because this one is more sympathetic. And I don’t think that the production values were that cheap. The one part that was a little weird was the witch putting a mind control spell on Dorothy’s friends.

What is going to take over the wiz after it closes? I think this should bring back Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlejuice back to Broadway at the marquee theater.

They should film Beetlejuice on Broadway because they forgot to film the Broadway show a Beetlejuice at the marquee theater on Broadway after the Wiz close next week. Beetlejuice should come back get films and put on HBO Max.
