Questions answered on Episode 93 of the AskDAP Show

00:20 - Q1 - Should I use anti seize when installing RS7 Spark Plugs on my MK7 GTI?

3:26- Q2 - I was turned on to your store via your YouTube channel. I enjoy your videos, and I recently ordered a Unitronic Stage 1+ tune and R600 intake from you guys. The tune is great and makes impressive power, but as the title of the email indicates, I'm already thinking about upgrading the clutch. I'm 38, and drive the car like a grandpa 99% of the time, but I do like to play occasionally. I've already noticed that from a roll in 2nd or 3rd, if I give it the beans and don't roll onto the throttle gently, I'm getting clutch slippage.

My question is this... If the most power I realistically ever plan to get out of the car is less than 350hp/400lb ft with a stage 2 tune and downpipe down the road, what clutch do you recommend? I see that you carry two South Bend Stage 2 offerings that are about $100 apart and provide a 65lb/ft rating difference. Is it worth it to just spend slightly more and get the stouter part? I watched episode 44 on clutches right before writing this and I know that the clutch kit itself along with the labor to install it is a fair chunk of change. I'd like to do it once and do it right. I can tell you that if the pedal feel will be the same with both kits, I'm leaning towards the endurance version. Thanks for any advice you can give.

6:54 - Q3 - I enjoy your answers on YouTube. If you feel others would be interested maybe you can answer this for me: why does VW not give the Golf R some torque vectoring capability like many of the Audi models have?

11:43 - Q4 - How should I go about checking the low pressure fuel pump on my 2.0t FSI?

speaking of hpfp, my mk7 is reaching 3 yo and I had a problem with mine. I hit a nail in my front drivers side tire and had to patch it. When I removed it I seen oil running down the wheel well. I opened my hood and looked around and took the engine cover off. I seen what looks like oil leaking out of the hpfp and called vw and they told to bring it in asap. they called back later that day and told me it was not only oil leaking out but FUEL! I seen that the hpfp was common with problems in last Gen tsi engines so I was shocked this happend. just putting it out there for anyone that has a mk7 that is reaching 3 yo to look out for this.

Just btw aluminum does actually oxidize but only a very thin layer at the surface. The thin oxide layer actually doesn't not allow anymore oxygen to diffuse which is why it is only a thin layer and not all of the aluminum oxidizes. You can read about it if you'd like, it's called the Pilling-Bedworth ratio.

I've done all my own general maintenance since my first car (rescued 86' E30) and only ever used a very light coat of engine oil on the threads only.

Antiseize was common on the iron heads and early aluminum heads for GM. The poor maintenance regimen most GM vehicles received was to blame. Mechanics here in the Midwest knew that plugs would be badly rusted by the time Joe customer would have it serviced again. The use on early aluminum heads I chalk up to habit.

I, too, ALWAYS use a verrry thin film of silver-based anti-seize on sparkplugs. Period.

My understanding was new spark plugs have a coating that stops them from seizing up

They do use the abs system for torque vectoring much like other mfg are now using. Or at least that is what I have found on my Mk3 TTS Its more or less a marketing thing though the car holds a corner like stink .. ;) The electronics fire the inside wheels brake to get the car to turn better in the corner and as far as I know this "feature" can not be turned off like ECS and Stabilty corner..

You should never use anti-seize, especially with NGK as they are already coated (as other brands probably are now as well). If you do, they will back out quickly.

Focus RS has torque vectoring and costs the same as the R. GTI mk7 has torque vectoring at the front axel.

Question I have not seen addressed, with all the performance upgrades on GTI's and R's why is no one upgrading the radiator(s)
add 100 HP means much more heat for the system to disipate

I have an urgent question. I've had my vr6 gti for about half a year now and it's had a monotonic chain rattle sound since I got it (500 to 1000rpms it can be heard). It is a 24v vr6 with 135k miles on it and so far the noise has not gotten worse or better. I really do not know if I need to change it and my many hours of research have not come up with a straight forward answer. I would really appreciate if I got some feedback!

I have a question. My car has a code p0601 which is throttle valve control module memory sum error. According to alldata and the tsb's there is an adaptation to correct this issue. Can you tell me or make a video on it so I may be able to do this? Any information would be a great help. I have a mk4 golf gti 1.8t.
