In the early Noughties, intimidating Celtic defender Bobo Balde Struck fear and terror in to the hearts of the opposition in stadiums up and down scotland.

However despite being a fan favourite, the fearsome and formidable centre back spent the latter patter of his Celtic Career, languishing on the Bench or rotting in the reserves. Why?

Despite his negatives he is still a cult hero with the Celts.

When it was his day, he was an undoubted, unpassable colossus. When it wasn't his day, he was an accident waiting to happen. However, the good absolutely outweighs the bad. I'm surprised his outstanding performance in the 1-0 win against Manchester United in the Champion's League in 2006, having not played for ages and only being brought in because of a defensive injury crisis, didn't get a mention in this video. He was so good that night and it was a massive surprise considering how little he had been playing, as he was completely out of the picture by that point.

In the 20 years since I’ve never watched any replays or highlights from Seville. Wasn’t ready for this I’m away for a lie down now 😂

Bobo ( the brick wall.) balde. You couldn't get round him. You couldn't go through him. And you couldn't go over him. A brilliant servant to celtic. Love bobo.

I’ve watched a lot of Celtic defenders in my time and he is the only one who could clear the halfway line with a clearing header.
The power he generated was mental.
Forwards literally shat themselves when they came up against Bobo especially when they were playing for teams who went route 1 in the air.
The big man seldom lost an aerial battle.

Composure 2

An unbelievable physical specimen...
Just surprised he wasn't coached more 'technically and mentally' as that's where he lacked quality or he could have been top level indeed!

Ifs and buts!

Great assessment of a player loved by the fans. Rough around the edges, MO did manage to get the best from him and an absolute wall on his day.

Was living in Glasgow at the time, had a season ticket for block 105 . Actually saw him make his debut vs Dunfermline that sunny saturday afternoon, 2001 BC

Although a Dunfermline supporter, I was working in Japan at the time and stayed up all night with a Scottish friend to cheer on Celtic vs Porto. It was a real pain to hear them lose (on the radio) and then have to go into work with no sleep.

There's some players on both sides that optimise the old firm. Baldie was one of them. Got to love these players that really became a part of Glasgow. "Baldie's gonnie get ye"
