I am just starting in and the material on finding your way around the fretboard is priceless. A lot of lessons “tell” you how to visualize the fretboard but this lesson “shows” you how. Justin's course with Brett is fantastic and a worthwhile purchase for anyone who digs this channel. His anchor system is a really helpful way to break down the fretboard, taking it down to the simplest components of intervals related to a given root note. Tom Quayle is another great musician who got me into thinking this way before I heard of Justin. You will eventually get to the point where you can hear the sound of any interval before you even play it. Once you can visualize and hear the intervals you will take flight. When you first mentioned that you were changing speakers, I wondered how the Alnico Cream would work out for you. The ET65 is a wonderful all-arounder and it adds versatility, especially to my plexi bass-style amp. I've used an ET65 in a semi-open cab for almost 7 years, and the Alnico Cream was the only speaker I have ever been tempted to replace it with. I find the ET65's only slight shortcoming is that the mids are a little bit subdued in a band mix. So I added a tiny 1x10 closed-back cab to my rig, loaded with a Celestion 10" Greenback--alongside the ET65 cab. That really fills out the sound without adding too much extra volume or carry weight. The Greenback 10" is much less efficient, so it doesn't overshadow the ET65. For recording, I separately mic each cab, which gives me lots of mixing options.

I have the Morgan 4x12 cab in the "twilight" covering (no idea what its made of, doesnt look or feel like tolex) and I also have a matching Morgan MVP66 Head. Prior to buying the MVP66 my favorite amp was my Vox AC30. As soon as I heard the first notes/chords I played through the Morgan I was absolutely in love! I was like - holy shit! This thing sounds like a Vox on steroids! Good to know that my ear wasn't deceiving me and other people hear the Vox influence in Morgan Amps.

Oh, and if anyone is curious, the Morgan M412 Cab has 4 Celestion Greenbacks installed from the factory. I replaced two of them with Alnico Celestion Golds (in an X pattern, of course). The Greenback/Gold Alnico combo is absolute sonic bliss! I also have Alnico Celestion Rubys in one of my 2x12 cabs and those mixed with Celestion G12M Creambacks sound fantastic as well. Seems like combining good ceramic magnet speakers and Alnico magnet speakers gets you everything thats great about both speaker type, imo.

I'm currently on the lookout for a reasonably priced but quality built 4X12 cab that I can throw those Rubys and G12M Creambacks in (as opposed to the current setup I have them in - two 2x12 cabs connected using a Radial Cab-Link box). The M magnet Creambacks only have a 97db sensitivity compared to the Ruby's 100db (I currently have the cab with the Rubys up on a stand and about 2 feet behind the cab with the Creambacks to try to compensate for the small sensitivity difference). So I might have to switch to a set of the H magnet Creambacks, which are rated at 100 db sensitivity, once I find a good used 4x12 to put them all in. The Celestion Blue/Ruby/Gold/Cream Alnico speakers are all rated at 100db sensitivity. I don't know if 3db is a big enough difference to make the Rubys overpower the Creambacks. They would probably work fine together in a 4x12. However, Morgan sells some 2x12 cabs with a Celestion Gold and a Creamback but those cabs come with the H Magnet Creamback installed, which does indeed have the same 100db sensitivity as the Celestion Alnico speakers (I just looked it up to be sure).

Love your channel, Justin. Two tech tips suggestions: (1) use a 1/2" hex nut driver to loosen or tighten hex nuts on Switchcraft 1/4" phone jacks. It won't ding up the hex nuts like needle nose pliers can. (2) Remove all old solder and flux from a terminal, using a vacuum pump or desoldering braid, before making a new connection using new solder.

I bought the course, and I'm glad I did. I may have already "known" about the triads and how to find any note on the fretboard, but the course is causing me to actually *do* it in the course of the songs my band plays. I think that it's the concept of anchor notes and the example songs that made it click in my head. It's becoming easier, faster, and more inspiring to play original parts to our (admittedly) relatively simple chord progressions! I make the other musicians sound better . . . our band is leveling up these days. Sweet. 😎😎🎸🎸

Hey Justin, dig the channel! 1 tip when switching your speakers, the positive and negative wire doesn’t matter when it’s just one speaker… 2 or more then it does because of phase. When it’s just a single speaker it doesn’t matter.. lol.

I went with neodymium on my used Blues Junior IV. It had a Fender/Emminence Hempster, that alone weighed 8lbs. The neo creamback cut 4lbs off of that. Net weight of the amp went from about 33lbs to just over 28lbs. Perfect for a grab-n-go amp for jamming and what not.

Oh man I relate to this on a damn near molecular level!!  I'm mostly an acoustic player, but find myself putting away my BEST sounding guitars for a spell (which I KNOW sound amazing) because I get bored of the sound!!  I'll transition to playing something out of left field and completely different for a while (right now it's an inexpensive 90s Japanese nylon string) because the "new" sound inspires me to play different things.  But it's always so great to inevitably come back to those other amazing guitars that have been sitting in their cases for a few months, right?  Sorta like you coming back to the original speaker in your cab, I suppose!  You should get one of those baby video monitors for your cabinet, so you'll always be able to gaze lovingly at it's aesthetic artistry and good looks from your studio hahaha!!!  I recently discovered your channel, and this is my first time commenting, but I've slowly been going thru your back catalog of incredible videos...
