Schwarzenegger lauds Raffensperger for being ‘public servant’, not ‘party servant’

Former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has commended Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger for proving he is a “public servant” rather than a “party servant”.
The actor who described Mr Raffensperger as a “soulmate” said it was great watching the secretary of state defending the way he handled the election – despite death threats against him and his family.
“It's horrible, but you should always know that if you need anything from us, we are always there for you,” he said in a call organised by the USC Schwarzenegger Institute for State and Global Policy.
“We are big admirers of yours, and you will go down in history for being a good guy, a good public servant.”
Mr Schwarzenegger’s remarks came after Mr Raffensperger announced Georgia’s results remained unchanged, in Joe Biden’s favour, after counting ballots three times.
“It's been a long 34 days since the election on November 3rd. We have now counted legally cast ballots three times and the results remain unchanged,” Mr Raffensperger said.
“The Secretary of State's Office will be recertifying our state's election results.
“I know there are people that are convinced the election was fraught with problems, but the evidence, the actual evidence, the facts tell us a different story.”
Mr Schwarzenegger said he would give Mr Raffensperger a Democracy Action Hero Award.
“We decided we're going to go and, through our institute at USC, we are going to, you know, award a Democracy Action Hero Award, which is going to be, you know, over Zoom next week,” he said.
When asked if he would accept the award, Mr Raffensperger said he agreed.
“I will accept, but governor, honestly, we're just trying to run an election, just follow the process, follow the law,” Mr Raffensperger said.
“We didn't set out to earn any awards.
“We'd love to make elections boring again – that's our goal.”
According to the mission statement from the USC Schwarzenegger Institute for State and Global Policy, its goal is to advance “post-partisanship” where “leaders put people over political parties and work together to find the best ideas and solutions to benefit the people they serve”.
