I graduated from an Ivy League and work in finance. I still find it obnoxious when Chinese girls ask about my education and job, as if it is the most important thing to becoming a good husband / father.

Attracting a Chinese woman is about making her feel safe. If you can provide "安全感“ or security, both financially and emotionally than she will love and respect you. Life in China was pretty tough at one point, so the older generations always wanted to own a house to feel secure.

When you Date a Chinese woman you're essentially also dating her family, so if you can meet the requirements her family may have (a house and stable job) you're going to make your girlfriend's life much simpler as her family has already accepted you.

Another alternative is to date women who are already successful and have already taken care of the financial requirements on their own. To find women like this you can search for some of the bigger matchmaking companies, or online dating companies that are based in China.

I'm Latino and have dated Chinese women and they weren't as complicated as this video made them out to be. I did meet them in the NYC-Tri-State area. They were independent, smart, outgoing and fun. Their families were pretty "modern" and accepted me just fine. I don't know if this video was referring to women in the 70's.

This is the conclusion I came to as well when I started trying to date Chinese women. It's like you're dating a 1500s Puritan Brit. It's insufferable. Say you've been dating for a while and you do find her attractive - you can't even COMPLIMENT any of her features or express any desire for her (doesn't matter if charmingly or blunt). It's considered rude and tacky cause all things intimate are considered for marriage only.

The biggest mistake about dating Chinese women is to think they're Asian. They're not. They're Chinese. While that sounds contradictory, well... it isn't. They're more like a hijab-free version of Saudi Arabian women with the financial interest of a St. Petersburgian twen...

The only good part about dating in China is that if you're a Westerner, you don't give a shit if she's divorced or over 30. In China, that's literally the equivalent of weighing 400lbs, having bo, no teeth and a meth problem. Same goes for skin tone. Find yourself a darker skinned divorcee or single mom and you can date sevenfold outside your league. A woman as gorgeous as Joruis with darker skin, over the age of 30 and divorced/mom, who is clearly a 9.5 will date a dude who's a 4. They call that "Leftover women". Like anything sociopolitical in China: it's a degrading and horribly unfair shitshow.

Ahhh the job and money question. That’s an interesting cultural difference. In the US asking someone how much they earn is considered quite rude and none of your business. In China it’s an important and practical question to determine if your a suitable suitor.

Filipinos are that way too. As is much of Asia. As a westerner I’d advise not answering that question directly. I would say something like “I live comfortably by American standards.”.

They will definitely not like that answer and will be confused and alarmed that you won’t give a direct answer. Stick to your guns. Don’t answer that question.

Another interesting cultural difference. Don’t be offended if your Asian GF mother calls you fat.

It’s not really an insult so much as an off hand way of commenting that you must be doing ok financially because you are obviously eating well.

Another thing you should be aware of. Once an Asian girl has done her groundwork on you and has agreed to date you don’t be surprised if she is very cool towards public displays of affection but very open to physical intimacy in private right off the bat.

However, once you get the families approval to date her they will be expecting you both to get married down the road and not that far down the road and you will both be under tremendous family pressure to get married and have children promptly.

What’s wrong with being a Construction worker? Seems like a way more legitimate job compared to dancing and singing.

Edit: After a year of posting this comment and reading some of the replies, it is clear I have upset a lot of snowflakes and for that I am truly not sorry. Stay mad ballerina boys!

I dated one a decade back, she was really nice and straightforward, but it had a lot to do about how much money I made and got too materialistic

My gf was born in China, lost her husband who was also Chinese. Dating was very different at first as I didn't think she was interested as I'd try to give her a good night kiss and get the cheek. LOL
What I noticed is her friends all commented on how she smiled and looked younger since we were together. She was happy and feeling desired. I'm very affectionate and she became moreso just like my personality and I became more grounded like her instead of high energy freak that I am. =P We had a vacation with her friends who spoke almost no English and I was comfortable and my affectionate self with her and she responded the same as normal. What was interesting was her friends who were a couple became more like us. Being playful and affectionate as they were so reserved you wouldn't have known they even knew each other let alone been together for years.
My advise is to understand their culture and let some of it rub off on you as they will be more comfortable and probably absorb more of your culture. Or just break up. LOL =P

Those who think they know how Chinese are like(including Chinese themselves), they probably only know one part of Chinese. People from different regions, in different economic situations have very different characters. In recent years, even we ourselves are trying to break stereotypes of each other. I used to think my culture is the Chinese culture but it wasn't until I met people from around the country that I know it's only part of Chinese culture. Sometimes as a Chinese you'll find you know more about the world than your own country

I'm a Chinese young guy, 26, I will say in most of situations what she said applies over 90% of Chinese girl, it's just difficult to find a Chinese women who is not sophisticated with materials in their mindset, and most of them really didn't put any attention to build up mutual trust and respect within relationship, or any pleasure just for fun. Also it's also applies to man that the old family will cross the line to manipulate to have what they think is best for the kids and old family. Just the whole system is totally not working in the same way with most of American similar society. Since they also have mentioned the extremely sex ratio in China, u guys can just simply imagine how boring and stressful for a random Chinese dude to live in China.

I lived in Beijing for almost 10 months, unless something changed recently the women in the video are not representative of the vast majority of the women you will see. Speaking of the ones featured in the app at the end.

Well as a Chinese girl I do have to say this represents the majority of the Chinese girls WHO come from the middle class family or below. Slightly above middle class or even more wealthy family will never focus on money, house, car. They encourage their girl to pursuit true love and whatever they value. And that’s a great number of people now in China. So.... this video is half true.

the girl in the red shirt has such a lovely voice! this was really neat to watch. while I’m here, I might as well pose a question on my mind: I’m trying to write a story with a Chinese girl as a prominent character but I don’t want to lean on stereotypes or anything harmful or unrealistic. I want to portray her in a way an audience can resonate with and/or learn from as a person with a rich cultural background. does anyone here have any tips or insight into what makes a good or bad portrayal?
