LaserDisc Collection Update – January 2020 (Part 1)

Culturedog Sam Hatch finally gets around to showing off his modest LaserHaul from the final quarter of 2019, and possibly a few fresh discs to kick off the new year in shiny style. This batch is mainly full of commons, but there’s still some butt-kicking fun stuff within.

You had me there. For the first time I thought, "I have most of these. Yippeee!!!!". The exceptions being Bond and Laser optics II. And my copy of Lionheart is titled A.W.O.L but . . . I was so proud of myself. And then you go and say "I have 2 more boxes on the way".

Great pick ups and most look like they’re in fantastic shape too. I found over the years most of these titles on Japanese pressings. Ive always tried whether it be movies or music to seek out the import or special release pressings for the bulk of my collection. I’ve also discovered that with most of the more common movies you can get them fairly cheap in Japan. I’m not sure what it is but they take extreme care of their laserdiscs and I receive them in mint condition jacket, obi, and discs. Most are gatefold and the cardboard covers is often higher quality than those produced in the states. I haven’t come across many rotters either.

Back in the 2009 I bought the Deluxe CAV Edition of Fantasia for $10.00 and it was still sealed too! The Pro Logic Mix on it is considered to be the most accurate to the original "Fantasound" Mix from 1940. I've also got the Fantasia 2-Movie Collection that was released on Blu-Ray back in November of 2010. I never owned the Fantasia DVDs from the year 2000.

I like all four Lethal Weapon movies. I have been meaning to buy the Lethal Weapon Collection Blu-Ray box-set.

I love Speed and I think that it is one of the all-time greatest action movies ever made! I actually haven't watched Speed in a few years but I want to spin it up soon. I've never owned Speed on LaserDisc or Blu-Ray but I do have the 2-Disc Five Star Collection DVD Edition and it has a great DTS track on it!

6:06 I have that same Pan/scan of Predator! Quite a few of these I do have, including that widescreen love the gate fold on it. Did the director's cuts of Lethal weapon 1-3 ever make it to LD?

I've been slacking on my LD collection for a bit but just used an Amazon gift card I got for Xmas to pick up the Criterion edition of Shine. Looking forward to that coming.

Btw, Sam, do you know if Titanic got a full screen release like True Lies and The Abyss?

nice find I just got back in too laserdisc got about 50 so far just ordered Dante's Peak The Fugitive and pretty woman should be some good titles to check out always loved the laserdisc Reminds Me of and album the artwork is just so much better

Kick ass selections! But why do you buy the pan n scan lds? Do you watch them on a 4:3 crt set or just to collect?

Those Image discs had such shitty covers, they just pasted the same vhs cover in the middle lol. Back in the DVD era that Timecop LD was the only way to own it in widescreen until the blu ray. That's cool your Eraser isn't rotted, it's hard to find a good copy. I bet it sounds better than the DVD as well! How good or bad is the PQ/Audio quality on those old MGM LDs with the gold banner at the top? I get the impression they could be really shitty or surprisingly good! That Highlander disc is cool, The Quickening is bad but such an iconic poster art. Do you have Highlander 3 on LD?
