Seafarers( Merchant Navy) are on the Front line in the Maritime Industry. Their job also different from people's Job in the Land.
Their Life is Very very Hard life & Tough! They have to pressure their feeling, because missing their family, parent, wife, girlfriend, because do their job for long time on the ship. They take Risky job, unpredictable accident.., even death! High Appreciate & Salute for all seafarers!!
Stay more strong, , Safe sailing.. :-) Warm greeting from Indonesia.

Thats why this is not a job if you're in a relationship or have a wife. This will be a job for me because i love being alone while also interacting with people.

If companies would try to create better working enviroment for young officers, for instance shorter working contracts, I bet there would be no problem recruiting more greenhorns. It's just that the companies are too busy counting every penny they earn. My recommendation for every aspiring seafarer is to choose the Navy instead, most of the times they have contracts that civil seafareres can only dream about (2 weeks on / 2 weeks off ex.).

''half a million of officers work onboard recently and there is still 20 thousands open vacancies ''
Is that the reason many officers looking for a job onboard for long period?

I believe that seafarers are exploited. Poor wages and no time off. Especially those from poor countries. Like the Phillipenes.

Why isn't something being done about the low wage third world workers ? I find this job interesting, but the Government of my country just allowed vessels to bring in TFW's, most of whom come from East India, and are only paid 2$ a day.
