The way his voice cracks a little when he says “it wasn’t time that did it”…

Jesus christ Pedro can ACT.

Craig Mazin talked about this scene in the HBO Last of Us podcast and said something quite moving about Ellie's mindset in this moment. Up until this point, Ellie had always conceptualized her relationship with Joel around how much he meant to her and how much she needed him. This moment was the first time that she began to realize how much she meant to him and how much he needed her.

Not only a beautiful scene, but totally in character for these two, especially with them getting up and walking on when it gets really heavy. These are two deeply damaged individuals who are not used to being openly emotional and are still getting used to it. But the expressions say everything, especially Ellie's. The orphan girl who, by her own words, had everyone she ever care about die or leave her, now knows she has a father who will never leave her.

If anyone remembers the line at the very end of Part 2, “If the lord gave me a second chance in that moment…I would do it ALL over again.” Same energy. That stare 😭

There are so many ways this scene could have been played, but they went for naked vulnerability - in all its awkward beauty. The look on Joel’s face, and the look Ellie responds with..it’s just so real, and it melts me every time.

absolutely iconic acting in this scene

Two Dialogue additions added to the show, that I absolutely loved.

This one right here, but also the bit where Joel explains how he was a contractor, and when Ellie says that it sounds cool, he plays himself up. "Yeah, we were cool! Everyone loved contractors." Basically just doing the father bit of acting like you're a hot shot for your kid.

This scene moved my deeply. The acting is perfect, no overdoing things, very natural.

I think it was in this scene that Ellie realises that he will do anything for her and so that's why I'm guessing she doubts his story big time... the guy has no one else but her in the world

This scene hurts much more knowing that Pedro's mother committed suicide.

"It wasn't time that did it". Such a small line, a quip. Yet carries so much weight.

a beautiful line that reminds us of a both scary and comforting reality, and really summarizes the show as a whole - we need other people to heal, change, and survive

The Last Of Us is my favorite game of all time. But in my opinion this scene transcends the game. It does an absolutely incredible job of displaying Joel's character. Throughout the game or show, hes shown as cold, and hardened. But this interaction, shows that he still has feelings left. The acting of Pascal and Ramsey are phenomenal.

This scene reeeeally reminds me of Joel and Ellie’s conversation at the end of the last of us part 2, like just the vibe of it and how they interact as characters. They nailed translating the characters to live action and still having them feel the same at heart.

This was 3 weeks ago and I still think about it and get teary. When I watched I was sobbing. They are SO amazing as Ellie and Joel. I will be shocked and outraged if they don’t get nominated for awards. I haven’t cried that much over a TV series since Game of Thrones!

Just the way she looks at him breaks me.

The most tear-jerking moment in television history.

I know that it's ellie and Joel (who aren't emotionally expressive) but my heart lowkey yearned for a hug at the end of this conversation so bad 😭
