Notice how it's all about "freedom" and "choice" until a woman choose to become a stay at home mother.

I'm reminded of the Aesop's Fable about the fox who lost his tail.

A fox got stuck in a bramble bush while being pursued by a hunter. Having no other option, the fox chewed off his tail to escape. Later, he bragged to the other foxes about how much better his life was without his tail, seeing as he was lighter/faster without it, and was trying to convince the younger foxes to also remove their tails. An older fox said "would you be saying the same if you still had your tail?"

Today, we are living that parable, except the older fox is somehow the villain for suggesting that the tailless fox shouldn't be running around trying to convince everyone to chop off their tails, even if the tailless fox is still a victim of life circumstances. Whether that "tailless-ness" is a metaphor for drug/alcohol addiction, childlessness, promiscuity, sexuality, non-marriages, obesity, etc.

I'm a little bit longer in the tooth than that woman, and childless, but it wasn't by choice. I was rendered barren by disease and soon, my uterus will be excised completely due to its continuing efforts in the cause to kill me. It had three chances; it won't be getting a fourth. My cousin asked if this is difficult for me and I said it was, but I've had over a decade to come to terms with the fact that I won't be having any children of my own. I said this means he needs to settle down and have some kids so I can corrupt them with movies like the Never Ending Story and buy them a drum set. He laughed and said he was working on it. And please don't mention adoption. My various untreatable illnesses have left me in a state where any child of mine would end up caring for me more than me caring for them, and that's not fair to the child, that's not how it's supposed to work. I won't do that to any child; I'm barely okay with having a cat. My cat and I like to nap together when I get home from work, we do that a lot.

The hilarious thing about people bragging about being childless is how they act like kids remain in the baby phase forever. My kids are now school age and they're SUPER fun. So rewarding. In the grand scheme of things, changing diapers and sleepless nights were but a blip on the road of life. SO brief.

Having children and not having children both have advantages, but word to the wise; if you have to tell people that you're happy, you probably are not.

It’s not the woman being single with no kids that folks have a problem with. It’s the smug attitude & demand for attention online that these single childless women demand that you give them for their life choices. I have the same disdain for parents who have the same demand for others that they validate their life choices for having kids & denigrating those that don’t.
