Nancy Mace has tweeted about trans people and bathrooms more than 260 times (and counting) this week under the pretense of “defending women.” This comes after Sarah McBride, the first-ever transgender American, was elected to Congress. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, however, exposed the dark truth about Mace’s dangerous resolution and how it endangers ALL women and girls.

I'm a transgender woman in Alabama and have been using womens restrooms the past 8 years. Only issue I have ever had in a restroom was when a man saw me exiting a womens restroom at a local mall and started screaming at me. His wife heard the commotion and came running out of the womens restroom screaming at him to shut up and apologized to me for his behavior. I thanked her for her kindness and walked away to continue my shopping trip.

I was raped when I was four. That shit is some of my earliest memories. Hearing her use her story of abuse to victimize others makes me shaking mad.

I used to perform in a show where the cast had one trans woman.
Our manager asked us If we would be okay with her being in the changing room with us.
We all agreed that it was perfectly fine. And the reason we were asked, is because *she* didn't feel comfortable knowing how people act, and she hadn't had her bottom surgery yet. Not once did her being trans bother any of us, nor did it cause any issues.
On the other end of the spectrum, we had a crew member (cis man) who would walk into our dressing room randomly for BS reasons. He finally got fired, when he just walked in and didn't announce himself and we were in the middle of changing.
As he got escorted off the property, he was yelling and pointing at the trans performer saying "You let him in there!"
Trans people are not a problem.

They also need to mention that these policies force trans men in women’s bathrooms and effectively ban any intersex person from using any public bathroom.

Mace is so full of crap. Being victimized isn’t a lifetime license to gaslight anyone who challenges your political calculations.

I’m the only female who works in the warehouse area. I’m cisgender and I work with a bunch of cisgender men. We have a nearby unisex bathroom that we all use. I haven’t been assaulted. All we do is use the toilet, hopefully wash our hands, and go back to work. It seems like they think that men can’t be sexually assaulted or raped.

I'm ashamed of people who use their past trauma as an excuse to commit hateful acts against innocent people.

If only the Democratic Party were as willing to fight as AOC.

I wish he would have said "I'm not judging or shaming you, I'm just trying to understand why a rape victim is adamantly supportive of a rapist being in a position of power."

I've known two cis women who were harassed in a bathroom by people who thought they were trans. One was an athlete, in basketball gear. They other was an artist with a blue streak in her short hair--and was there with her old daughter. In the latter case, the harasser tried to look under the stall... so who is the real danger here? To women and to children.

She's using her own trauma to traumatize other people. How disgusting can you be?

As a trans person, I understand why McBride did not push back on the restroom thing. It was a trap designed to make her look as if her only reason for running was to be the first trans person in Congress, and then undercut anything she tries to do the rest of her term. McBride did not take the bait, and instead kept the focus on serving her constituents. She has strong allies, especially in AOC, who will fight Mace on this restroom pettiness.

Was her rape adjudicated in a criminal court? I guess it must’ve been, because according to her, if it wasn’t, it apparently doesn’t count. She’s beyond contemptible.

Does Mace not realize that men can be SA too? She was yelling at Stephanopoulos that he couldn't understand what she's been through. She doesn't know what anyone has been through and I doubt she has the empathy to find out.

Conservative women are fine with checking hoohaw until it comes time when someone wants to check conservative women to make sure they are really women.

I’m cis and I have been accosted multiple times with the accusation of “being a man” or “being trans.” The first time it happened, I was barely 18 and weighed 110lbs. With the exception a two year period in my early 20s when it was a bit shorter, I’ve always had waist-length blonde hair. I’m a former professional ballerina, so when I wear makeup, it looks really good because I’m good at it. Without makeup, I just look really young. I have a narrow frame and slender build cuz again, I was a ballerina. And I don’t dress androgynously. It’s literally just that I’m tall. Being tall will get you transvestigated even if by every other metric you present fem. Which, the idea of being taller being a “masculine” feature is so infantilizing toward women. Hell, I’m the shortest woman in my family! This hysteria is so stupid and dangerous, it makes me so angry.

As a teen in the 80's almost every club had unisex bathrooms. I can not tell you how many Trans women stepped in to stop a girl from being assaulted. The absolutely only thing Trans Women did have give fashionable advise.

Nancy Mace clearly never went to therapy after her trauma. Because you don’t heal by turning your anger on innocent people. You just don’t.

I'm a trans man. Before I came out as trans, I once had a man follow me into the women's bathroom. I was 14 at the time, and presented in a very masculine way. The man assumed I was going to the men's bathroom, which is why he followed me. The look on his face when he realised what he had done was priceless. I held the door for him too (didn't think twice about it), and it was before I had realised I was trans. I only realised what had happened when he said "wrong bathroom" and ran off.
