No ceasefire yet, but glimmer of progress at Ukraine-Russia peace talks

The first round of face-to-face talks in weeks between Russian and Ukrainian negotiators have failed to come up with a ceasefire. During the March 29, 2022 talks in the Turkish city of Istanbul, negotiators from Kyiv called for security guarantees from the European Union and Nato members. Moscow said it would reduce military operations near the Ukrainian capital as well as by the city of Chernihiv. But Ukraine and the US have expressed scepticism about Russia’s announcement. Also during the talks, Russia indicated a meeting between President Vladimir Putin and his Ukrainian counterpart Vladamir Zelensky was possible, but no date was set.

Not the best time for cease fire. Ukraine is taking the offensive. A cease fire would only allow russian forces to regroup and resupply.
