Installing the Honeywell Home 6290W

In this video, Joe from Alarm Grid shows you how to install the Honeywell Home 6290W Touchscreen Keypad. This keypad will work with most Honeywell VISTA Systems. It uses a 4-wire connection with the panel's ECP bus. This keypad can be nicely mounted to a wall. Power down the panel before connecting.

The Honeywell Home 6290W is great for users who want to improve their overall experience when using a Honeywell VISTA Security System. It is nice and thin, and it looks fantastic when mounted to the wall. The keypad is also very easy to use, as the menu options are large and easy to read. End users really appreciate the full-color menus, which offer a nice improvement over a standard push-button keypad.

Honeywell has offered other touchscreen keypad options for their VISTA Systems in the past. The 6290W actually replaces the existing Honeywell 6280 Keypad. With the 6290W, you get a much fresher and more modern look and appearance. Even if you have a hardwired alarm panel in a metal enclosure somewhere, you can still use the 6290W for most of your system operations. However, it's still a good idea to keep your old push-button keypad around somewhere, as you may need it at some point.

Once you have properly installed the Honeywell Home 6290W Keypad, you can use it to arm and disarm the system. You can also use it for programming by using the keypad's Console Mode. Honeywell is also expected to release an updated version of their Tuxedo Touch that will have a similar appearance to the 6290W. This updated Tuxedo Touch will essentially be the same as the 6290W, but the Tuxedo Touch will also function as a Z-Wave controller. Z-Wave functionality is not included with the 6290W. As of November 2019, the new Tuxedo Touch has not yet been released.

Remember that as a touchscreen keypad, the 6290W will take up one of the AUI slots on the system. A Honeywell VISTA System only has a limited number of AUI slots available. A VISTA 15P has 2 AUI slots. A VISTA 20P, 21iP, or 21iPLTE has 4 AUI slots. And the VISTA TURBO Panels (128BPT and 250BPT) have 6 AUI slots. Also keep in mind that the Total Connect 2.0 will also take up one of these slots!

Will my VISTA 20P power 2 of these touch screens or will I need an auxilary power supply? The only other device using power is the rf module. No other accessories like motions smokes or glassbreaks

Alarm Grid Team... You guys are doing a great service! I bought this keypad pretty much because of your videos. However, after install, I've discovered 2 annoying quirks of this unit that make it worse functionally than a standard Alpha keypad. Hopefully there are workarounds for this as they are simply software related. First, to see what zones are faulted, you have to wake up the screen, and navigate to faulted zones to see what's open. On the old alpha keypad that was simply at a glance as the display would wake up and display the zone -- no user intervention required. Now, it stays blacked out, not giving you any information. How could they do that? There is no setting for it natively. Secondly, once the screen times out, nothing brings it back up except for user touch. There should be an option to have system events wake up the screen. And once it's on, nice and large, display the faulted zone until it's cleared. We've all had that moment where a zone chimes that's not supposed to, and you immediately need to see what zone it is. You may be in a dangerous situation and the last thing you need to do it dig thru menus on the keypad. Just show the zone! Worse yet, once you do navigate to show the zone the hard way, it lags before it shows it. These are deep fundamental flaws that Honeywell should address. I'm somewhat regretting purchasing this unit as I've lost functionality versus the Alpha it replaced. You guys think Honeywell could be convinced to fix these issues? Thanks so much!!

I have an older Honeywell 6160 Keypad with WA20P-9.18 2013 REV 9.18 panel. If I purchased this to replace my older key pad. Is it just plug in and play with the current settings, or do I have to do an extensive setup if all I'm doing is just replacing any older looking keypad?

Good afternoon friends of Alarmgrid I wanted to make a query which is the field to activate that sends several reports of the same area once alla an intrusion without being disarmed the system. That is, if I arm the system I open a window the system sends the report to the monitoring center I close the window without disarming the system pass the 4 min of siren cut I reopen the same area and no longer sends me the intrusion report. Will there be any fields that I need to activate?

What if I get a vista 20P but THIS keypad will be the first and only keypad for the system? Will I not be able to program it unless i get those old school keypads too?

Does this allow you to "bypass all" when arming so you don't have to bypass each window if you want to keep them open?
