Oregon's Mount Hood, Timberline Lodge & Mirror Lake

What a great way to spend a spring day in Oregon. I drove scenic highway 26 to the historic Timberline Lodge on Mount Hood. I'd seen it before but never in person. I remember it as the exterior of the Overlook Hotel in Stanley Kubrick's movie version of "The Shining." After a brief stop at the Lodge for pictures, I took off for Mirror Lake. I hiked the popular Mirror Lake Trail in the Mount Hood National Forest to find the source of the world-famous lakeside photos of Mount Hood and, thankfully, avoided any encounter with bears. It was an easy three-mile hike. Just Great!

I lived in Chiloquin, Oregon, when i was a kid. I rode the bus to school, and the route took us past Klamath Lake with Mt hood on the far side. Beautiful view.

One of my most favorite drives.. Love taking 26 to Maupin from Portland... Gods country no doubt about it...
