$3 Chinese Takeout Meal

For three dollars you could have orange chicken, chow mein, kung pao pork, and a side of rice. If you’re at a restaurant, that might only get you a side of rice.

What I've learned from this series: Anything can be made cheaper if you simply ignore labor costs.

I’ve never bothered to make any of josh’s recipes. I just like watching him do it and thinking about how it tastes.

I would love to see Josh try to beat the $5 rotisserie chicken from Costco

I appreciate you going back over the chinese-american basics, and all in one video too! My only cookbooks are yours, and Babish's, and I havent read either of them because I just pull up your videos and cook along with you! Im a visual learner, but no regrets on buying the books, I love you (and Babish). The two of you fostered my love for cooking and for that, I thank you! Keep up the good work!

I worked in a chinese restaurant in college. I've never gotten takeout chinese because it is so incredibly easy to cook. My usual menu is lemon chicken (same process as orange... with lemon), beef chow fun, chicken fried rice, egg drop soup, and crab rangoons. If I'm feeling froggy I'll do cashew chicken, mung bean bao, and curry shrimp.

I cooked the orange chicken and it was delicious. Thanks Josh. Important lesson was learning corn starch + water turns a liquid sauce into a thicker one. Good to know.

I'd love to see Josh take some of his viewers home recipes, and improve them!
I'm sure I'm not the only home cook that has some recipes that are missing something, I just can't ever figure out what it is. 😂

I would like to see a meal prep ideas video! Similar to this series to be affordable but to make them healthy-ish and in larger batches for days of the week

Best time to get takeaway is after 3:30pm, when they start the happy hour sale. At my favourite place they do three pre-packed boxes for $15, six boxes for $27. It makes a good dinner for all three of us.

I want to thank you for expanding my palette and actually helping me be better in the kitchen. Thanks Josh!

Sesame chicken at my local Chinese place is freaking $16. A single egg roll is $4.25. It's unreal.

I made a few adjustments to the Kung Pao Pork and it turned out really well. To keep things a bit healthier I cooked the pork in an airfryer albiet with a liberaI spraying of oil. I doubled the amount of sauce but only used 1 tablespoon of cornstarch and still needed to add some water. If I had gone with the amount of cornstarch Josh suggested I would have ended up with a jellified gloopy lump! Also added some msg and chilli flakes to taste. To take it up a notched I substituted honey sesame cashew for the peanuts (roast raw cashews in the oven at 190C until golden brown add honey and toasted sesame seeds and back in the oven for a few more minutes).

I've been looking for a video like this where a whole American Chinese meal is covered. I'm planning to try this tomorrow, but I'll be using chicken only. Thank you for this!

I want to see in the videos a counter of how many servings your making in these meals. Like, how big is the serving that you’re making that makes the price so small per serving.

there's no question it's cheaper, but I can't buy vegetable oil as cheap as you're getting it. That jug you had is $7 over here.

Ok, so I go to the grocery store and buy $100 worth of ingredients, then make a 3 dollar meal. Got it.

I watch for his recipes. His...price analysis... pretty....fantasy based. But I absolutely love his videos. Great food, talented Chef and straight to the point and quick. 6 minutes for 3 complicated recipes! Most other chefs take 20 minutes for a simple 3 ingredient drop it in a pot and walk away recipes. Thanks for getting it right to the point dude!
