With any job, if you ask to leave and your manager says “no” then the idea that you might be fired if you leave is implied. The manager does not need to actually say “you might be fired if you leave”. It is commonly understood that that is what is implied when a manager says “no” after an employee asks for permission to go home.

Not to be a protagonist but common sense plays a major role in survival. My ass would have been outta there regardless what the boss said.
