In his first term, Donald Trump pulled out of the global Paris Climate Accords and rolled back over 100 regulations impacting the safety of our air, water, and environment at large. As we prepare for Trump’s second term, Stacey Abrams speaks to Tik Root, Senior Staff Writer at Grist, about what protections and milestones are most at risk, which elements of the Inflation Reduction Act have bipartisan appeal, and how much Congress and the courts could play a role in slowing Trump’s fossil fuel agenda. They also discuss actionable ways that individuals can monitor their environmental safety and climate impact within their communities and homes.

Crooked believes that we need a better conversation about politics, culture, and the world around us—one that doesn’t just focus on what’s broken, but what we can do to fix it. At a time when it’s increasingly easy to feel cynical or hopeless, former Obama staffers Jon Favreau, Jon Lovett, and Tommy Vietor have created a place where people can have sane conversations that inform, entertain, and inspire action. In 2017 they started Crooked with Pod Save America—a no-bullshit conversation about politics. Since then, we continue to add shows, voices, and opportunities for activism, because it’s up to all of us to do our part to build a better world. That’s it. End of mission.

Great to see you back Stacey! I was wondering why I hadn't seen much of you lately. In Georgia we really need someone who will be a strong advocate for environmental issues, especially after the Biolab incident which has pretty much been whitewashed. Citizens are still suffering the effects, and the place is still in business!

I’m glad Biden protected our coastal waters. I can’t imagine another BP oil spill.

Citizen science trainings to monitor water quality can be acquired through Master Watershed Steward or Master Naturalist programs, as well as watershed conservancies or soil and water conservation agencies. They also often offer classes and trainings about how to conserve water.

I wonder how much filibustering there will be.

One would think Trump would be concerned about the environment.

These manufacturers need to wake up and realize more consumers making decisions what to buy is impacted by environmental decisions and they just need to make the improvements. Like the auto makers getting on the electric and alternate engines are doing.

Thank you for doing this!! Very helpful information! One question, Tik mentioned that the government is subsidizing fossil fuels, where can we find out more about this? Some say it’s actually tax breaks rather than outright subsidies. Can you clarify?

Ms. Abrams, please be careful about BetterHelp. They have had questionable practices and while they at least supposedly have reformed, I would be careful accepting their sponsorships.
