Need shirts that say: "Do Not Attempt to Feed-It's Complicated "

My family would have been spinning to find you food. Not being able to feed people is a big no no for us. Because food I'd so important for everyone.

But I did have one friend that actually grew zucchinis at her house so that was fun

I have severe IBS (I'm currently on the low FODMAP diet) and am currently in highschool. I went on school camp and was barely able to eat any of the foods being served at group meals. I ended up annoying my principal when I couldn't eat the pizza being served. Dairy, tomato and all of the other toppings would've given me a reaction (I could only eat the wraps and spinach being served but my principal also wouldn't let me eat just that). I'm very glad the camp organisers stepped in and made a meal using left overs from during the day.

so thankful my childhood best friend who had lots of allergies because of another genetic condition (not mcas) always had food at my house. We made sure to have allergy friendly food for her and dishes kept in plastic bags that where only used for her.

My daughter went to a birthday party once. Someone had a peanut allergy, so they decided to switch from a chocolate cake to a carrot cake (not sure why they thought this was safer…but🤷‍♀️). My daughter (about 10 at the time) is allergic to carrots. She was so unhappy that they would accommodate another child’s allergies, but not her own. She’s 15 now, and just assumes that it’s a bonus if she can eat something at other people’s houses.

Having to explain it all takes forever and I still get anxious. I just ask what others are making and if it’s not an easy adjustment I pack food lol

I can understand that this would be challenging on both sides. You making sure if you were eating somewhere else you didn't have a food or foods that were not safe potentially with cross or direct contamination. Also for the parents to be nervous about giving you food that may potentially be not safe for your allergies and causing you to have a reaction while you were under their supervision

My son has food allergies and Arfid so the only time he went somewhere, I brought all his food. But he's always been so afraid to have to find something to eat that he won't go to friends' houses.

When you said "i didn't know that I had mcas" i thought you meant that you didn't know that you had a massachussetts standardized test

My friend has celiac and it was so funny watching my mom make the same meal (chicken and rice) every time she came because she’d forget what has gluten and just remembers I said rice is fine, she wouldn’t even sub the chicken for fish or meat because she’s worried they have gluten 😂

My cousins boyfriend's parents struggle with her being vegetarian 😂 "what on earth could we make without meat? I guess we'll give her an egg" I can only imagine what you went/ go through with that.

This is my experience as a autistic person, I can barely eat outside my home, when I go to a restaurant there's only 2 or 3 foods I like at best, it's not an allergy but it's something I can't control, a characteristic of autism is over sensitive senses, like taste, touch and smell, I rhink this affects the food I eat a lot, I can't stand certain smells, certain textures, and I feel like I'm more sensitive to subtle changes like a little bit more of a spice or even salt. There's also how autistic people have difficulty dealing with unfamiliar things, and many prefer to do things always the same way, in my case I always eat the same way

My daughter has a friend with a metabolic disorder that affects his ability to absorb fats. It's made me realise how deeply ingrained food is as part of our culture of hospitality. It feels odd to be serving up cake and ice cream at a birthday party to everyone but one guest!

With really restrictive diets, I've learned that it's just easiest to just ask, "what can I get for you that would feel special?"

I had a friend when I was little, she could eat I believe 6 foods.
My family always planned around her when she was over and when it was my birthday she got a bowl of ice and a bowl of sugar which she dipped the ice in and licked it (this was her favourite snack at home too as it was the only sweet thing she could eat)
I think she’s now down to only gluten, dairy, and maybe two other things she can’t eat.
I loved her and I miss her a lot.
We fell out when I started school and moved.
Our mothers are still in touch tho 🥰

This actually makes me feel so much less alone haha I would go to my ex’s house a lot and they’d always try to feed me but I can’t have gluten or lactose, and then even outside of that I’m sensitive to most meats and seasonings so really it’s easier for to just not eat at all but they’d keep asking if there was something they could do😂definitely well intentioned but it made me dread going there bc I felt so bad😂

I'm not allergic to things that badly, but I'm definitely hesistant to eat in public considering I cant have dairy, lactose, gluten, wheat, tree nuts (excluding coconuts), peanuts and eggs (whites or yolks)

i’d def ask and then keep a few foods you could eat if you were my kid’s friend. sucks bc i suspect i have alpha gal- and i got takeout today for the first time in weeks and i’m sick. i’ll never even know what got me since what i ordered would be safe if i made it at home.
