I have watched quite a lot of videos arguing back and forth on the perfect routine, the do's and don'ts, and hundreds of different products. I honestly just picked up leave in conditioners and oil and then gave up because it was overwhelming. I saw your video randomly and it was so refreshing. I appreciate your approach, your step by step results, and your final words of advice/encouragement. You've encouraged me to try again. Thank you :)

Your hair has highs and lows naturally and it'll lighten a bit by itself as you spend more time in the sun. Don't color it! Leave that for when you start getting a lot of white hair and you have to decide whether you're going to embrace it or disguise it.

The wave in my 2C hair took about 6 months to develop "memory". My hair is high-porosity and fine. For me, light conditioners, no creams, and hard hold gel is what works best. It takes a while to "learn" you own hair! You're doing a great job so far. Keep at it.

I have identical hair and have been cgm for a few years now. Check out Kinky Curly, great for low porosity, coarse hair. I love Biolage HydraSource Conditioning Balm for low porosity hair. I clarify all the time, and also use Malibu C Undoo Goo, which removes hard water buildup. The Briogio gel is by far the best, but absolutely clarify afterwards as it contains protein which is no no for our hair type. Try plop diffusing where you rest your hair on top of a counter or hamper, on a damp towel, and hover diffuse (to defy gravity). Follow that with pixie diffusing on the ends. You can see Gena Marie do this process. Also tidy up the pattern by twirling around your finger so it curls in the correct direction. Add hairspray to keep the hold overnight.

Out of all videos I've watched this is the one that makes the most sense. Half of my hair gets wavy and another half barely holds anything no matter what and usually just straightens up really fast. But people keep telling me that my hair is curly 🤦‍♀So as you said "the question is, do you actually have enough wave to wear it wavy?'. Tho I do have some waviness, I'm not sure if it's enough to even try wearing it wavy. But then it's never completely straight either... Hell of a situation
Great and very refreshing video, thanks a lot! :)

Had a realization after watching this video and washing my hair that scrunching really is a curly hair thing to do. For wavy hair we should be coiling. Wavy hair has a rope like quality in that it naturally wants to twist in to a round shape when you coil it. Instead of scrunching grab a section by about ear height (the more sections the less uniform and "beachier" the result will be) and twist the hair up in to a loop. Your hair will tell you what direction it wants to coil up in and in how big of a loop. When its all wrapped up between your palms press it gently and voila! That gorgeous "s-curve" is revealed
Your hair looks so gorgeous btw, it makes me so excited to be starting my wavy hair journey:) thanks for the amazing deep dive!

I'm so glad the algorithm recommended this! I'm trying to bring out my waves after yearsss of straightening. I have the same issues and a similar wave pattern as you. I'm gonna try some of the stuff you suggested but I think I definitely need a haircut! Mine is down to my low back and it's a straight cut across. Also, I would say keep your color! I have black hair too and we don't notice how much depth it naturally has in the sun ❤

I 100% agree that what works for one person doesn't work for another. I break the rules all of the time and love the outcome. However, something I have found that might be universal is the game-changing effect of a diffuser. Water weighs down our waves so if your goal is more bounce and definition, highly recommend a diffuser. One more thing to mention since you are newer to this, don't be surprised if your styling routine needs to change from season to season. Without fail, my hair is less wavy when the weather gets colder because the heat coming on in the house dries out the air too much. Each fall I worry that I am losing my waves and then remember it's just the lack of humidity.

I love the format of this video. I’m convinced. I have never used hair product in my LIFE. I’m almost 30 years old and it’s pretty wild to discover I have wavy hair instead of straight hair with krimps 😅

I will say, I have 2A waves and whether I am consistently keeping up with a wavy girl method never really matters. I have noticed no difference cutting out heat styling completely. Each day is unique and you’re not gonna get more or less waves because you did or didn’t do it the day before. If you have wavy hair, it will come back everyday with the right conditions. Don’t stress about that part

I’m Chinese and I discovered last year that I have wavy hair, that looks and seems to act basically the same as your hair. I’ve also come to many of the same conclusions you have along your journey, so I’m really excited to see such an amazing deep dive!
I truly thought I had the “typical” straight Asian hair and wondered why it would never behave. Ironically I’ve always wanted waves, ever since I was a child, and did go through with perming my hair in high school into waves that basically looked like my current natural waves with styled product 😂

OMG so happy I stumbled across your video! So many of these videos are for people with much wavier / curlier hair than mine. This was helpful and encouraging, loved the style of this video too. Thank you for your dedication to creating it and sharing it!

The best gel I have tried so far for wavy hair is the curlsmith defining souffle. Its so hydrating, and has a beautiful hold but doesn't weight the hair down so its keeps bouncy and light. Def recommend trying if you haven't yet!

Your hair looks so beautiful, like that elusive soft wave that’s so hard to get even with a curling iron! I also have hair that appears mostly straight with a couple kinks in it. I’m going to try a similar routine and see what happens! Thank you for sharing your journey ❤

I would love to see an update including your refresh process to minimize frizz and renew the waves and how you wear your hair to sleep at night! My hair is exactly the same texture as yours and I struggle with this!! ❤

dont worry about the cgm, many people use it to start their journey but most will deviate, even curlier girls lol. and make sure to clarify every once in a while, the product build up can eventually weigh down the waves and make it harder to keep hydrated ❤️

I have wavy hair too. The right side curls in and the left side curls out. Some days it’s more wavy borderline coils. But the middle back of my head is also the least wavy part. However, the hairs towards my nape in the inner layers is the curliest. Wavy hair is definitely so random

Thank you for such a thorough and realistic assessment of managing 2a wavy hair! I’m glad I stumbled on your video by searching 2a hair. Hope lots of other people learn stuff like me.

I just love this video for a lot of reasons. It's so refreshing and discusses the actual problems a beginner might face instead of just recommending products and giving a rulebook to follow!!
