A brief foreword...
In Latvian culture major events in one's life were celebrated, marked by "honors". The first such honor for a young child - baby even, is when he is given his name, becomes admitted into the family and acquires godparents. "Pāde" in this case means a child to be named. So the guests are invited to this event, among which obviously are also godparents (kūmas). In general this ritual is meant to bring blessing to a child and ensure a fruitful and happy life. The ideology basically is - If we do A, B, C, then it will bring X, Y, Z to the child. For example, if the godmother wears multiple layers of lush clothing, it would symbolize that the child will grow strongly and won't be bothered by illness. So when all the ritual procedures are done (among which preparation for this event is also of high importance) and all the goods and blessings brought to the child by the invited guests, then the finalizing part of the ritual is swinging/rocking of the baby (Pādes dīdīšana). The idea behind this, is that rocking/swinging will equally distribute all the "goodies" throughout the child's life (so that there are no "bad-times").

The song itself is a folk-song and the lyrics go approximately (I will try just to convey meaning):

Godchild is great, godchild is small
Whether great or small - I won't drop him

Throw, throw, required, required, (this is like addressing others, supposedly guests of this ritual)
It is required to buy a foal for a godchild

When becoming a godmother (going to the said ritual), I dressed lushly
So that my godchild grows lushly (strong)

Where is my silver charm-belt (This is not precise, but gives you idea of how "zvārdzeņu josta" approximately could look - a familiar term, so to speak)
So it would jingle, while I dance (rock) the godchild. *A note - there are many words for the rocking procedure of - among which is also "dancināšana", which directly translates as dancing but obviously a baby cannot dance by itself, nevertheless, a godmother can dance while carrying the baby.

Don't sit at (this ritual procedure) like a boleus (mushroom) in birch grove
Take your godchild - and whirl in dance with her

With the Sun, towards the Sun I rock the godchild,
So that the godchild becomes great - while my head starts to go around (basically onset of vertigo)

Peep, "skauģi" (an envy person) through an opening in the fence,
An envy person will become hit by a stone, while I have my godchild in my hands

To be honest, initially I was only attracted to the visual aspect of this song. I really didn't warm-up to the music on the first "go around". As time went on, I started to notice the instrumentation intricacies, and started to REALLY get into the rhythm and cool Latvian linguistics of the song.I especially like the almost eerie harpsichord-sounding instrument in the middle and the end. Now, i'm hooked on this video, and have probably watched it 1000 times. LOL. I think i'm under a spell. ;)
