Meacham to me is the preeminent historian in America now that David McCullough is gone.

It bother President Bush his whole life that he lived and his charges died. They were the Greatest Generation for a reason. Their humanity and fraternal love of their fellow World War II combatants never left them. Senator Dole’s salute tells you all you need to know about the respect they held for each other from War. Sad that we are losing our Earthly grips on them and they will all fade into history before too long. We will be the poorer for it.

Beautiful eulogy! Well written and delivered. I didn’t always agree with his policies, but I did always trust he would use good ethics and be truthful to make his decisions. He was a loving man and that’s what we need in America right now.

Sending the military to war and knowing that innocent civilians will be killed in that war is a terrible burden borne by presidents and prime ministers and leaders.
