Even though Trump is misguided when he says "some people need to go long distances" as EV's absolutely can go long distances and only need 15 minutes to charge backup a few hundred miles.

It helps ease his conservative base into the idea. Maybe he realizes it, maybe he doesn't but that's what he's doing. It starts with "Oh EV's are cool but they aren't for everybody".. to "Actually EV's can go pretty far" to "Wow they're easier to maintain that gas"
