The only one of these books I've read even some of was People we meet on vacation. I know people seemed to love it and because of that I plan to pick it up again. I only got through about 60 pages. It felt to slow for me (I don't think I'm a slow burn fan) but the biggest thing was even though I knew it was romance it definitely felt as though the book read like women's fiction

While I did quite enjoy People We Meet on Vacation, totally agree holding on that reveal is quite anti-climatic

i started and finished “it happened one summer” today, and since i usually don’t read i felt super proud of myself! that being said, i totally agree with your review! it got so lovey-dovey and even a bit corny, specially by the end. i also think what makes romances special is the journey, but i think the author didn’t really spend that much time exploring the bickering or the reason why piper was so special. we only got to see her hand out with opal and abel like 2 times, and did she really only cook pasta once? i don’t know, some things felt really rushed and others (like hanna and foxe’s relationship) were just filler and plot devices, not really having any sort of depht within the bigger picture of the story.

I liked The People We Meet on Vacation so much more than Beach Read, just haven't gotten invested in her books yet. But I did give her a second chance which is rare for me, if I don't love the first book I rarely waste my money to try again. Vicious l know lol. Too many authors out there to read...

Book recomendation: Private Arrangments, Sherry Thomas
Historical Romance/Industrial time period.
Marriage in Crisis/Second chance/Angst

An estranged married couple on the verge of divorce battle through their attraction towards each other to see if there is any chance they could still make their marriage work.

I'd be curious to know your thoughts on this book. I am not a huge fan of romance as a genre but this one stood out to me, and felt unique, maybe because I don't read a ton of romance? But I also wondered if you had any recommendations that were similar to this book?

Regarding this book:
I can see if some readers might think this book moves a little slow, though I didn't but more importantly I think it can be offputing to some people who pick up this book expecting a traditional romance, and I don't think this book is marketed well to set up what kind of story it tells. I think its good to know going into this book that the two main characters are not good people to begin and their relationship in nothing to be idolized. But sometimes their is something to be learned in indulging in stories like that. I think this book gets away with some of its more despicable situations because both characters, as immoral as they are, do feel deep remorse for their actions, and struggle through the decisions they make. Also the author does a good job of explaing every thought process each character has up until the decision is followed through. So the character's choices, though maybe not justified, are at the very least understood. Though this book does fall into the trap of character just not communicating with each other but, it doesn't bother me the way it does in bother books for some reason. 🤷‍♀️

I enjoyed the book You Deserve Each Other by Sarah Hogle. I even read it twice. I just appreciate the way they work on their relationship and it grows after all the problems they have. It feels good.

I really enjoyed Neon Gods and loved their relationship but I agree that I was very confused with the whole beef between Zeus and Hades' father.

I completely agree with you on a touch of darkness. It just didn't work for me and I was so annoyed with persephone for the entirety of the book that I couldn't connect with anything that was happening.

I completely agree with the first two and i'm currently reading People We meet on Vacation and feel the same. Soooo much going back and forth. I like them and i'm invested in the romance but I wish they would focus more on the present 🤪

I totally agree about PWMOV. Poppy’s quarter-life crisis was relatable and I liked their vacation in Italy. But the rest of the vacations were repetitive for me too.

There are a lot of popular books I also do not like but I'm afraid to say it because people easily gets upset. I love watching you. Stay safe.

i also dislike predictable romances. my sister is the same, she did not like misbehaved by charleigh rose because she could see the conflict coming a mile away, much like it happened one summer. now that ive seen ur review, ill probably skip that book haha

no for real, one of my pet peeves in romances is like pulling “pranks” on each other... when instead they’re just super mean or invasive🥴 like know when to back off and to respect boundaries. id be so goddamn mad if someone just kept continuously doing that shit to me.

I stopped reading books with illustrated covers a long time ago. They are always disappointing!
