For greater context, if they're gonna die anyway, best to allocate some stats elsewhere, otherwise there's no need to overkill it. unless there's a reward for overkilling

Please remember maw gives a pretty beefy shield, and a lot of bruisers usually have a shield or healing in their kits giving them effectively 1-1.8k extra health so there are some use cases where void is better

This Void Staff vs Cryptbloom thing is almost exclusively for Evelynn as some of the comments said tho and shouldn't really be generalized to all mages
Some champs that rely on high damage hits, don't have their own magic PEN, and want the extra 10% magic PEN like Azir and Xerath are probably still better off building Void Staff to make sure they kill (especially against high magic resist tanks cuz I remember playing Azir one game and I had Void Staff, Liandry's, and Nashor's and I was still doing smol pp dmg against Ornn)

This works only if u hit fully cooked w and get the magic shred. If not, like most scenarios, void staff is better.

Criptbloom doesn't instakill tanks. Which is something you are going to face quite frequently in this patch. Plus... if you are willing to trade your boots for more AP in endgame, the extra magic pen + AP from void is more usefull than 15 AH.

if you can cooked your W fully than sure but it really depend on the game, also that extra 10% pen is really big for your AOE ult and just one shooting in general

In my opinion, Void Staff should still be built in many cases because, in the video, the damage is reduced due to the excessively high percentage of magic penetration, which makes the damage not significantly different. However, in most cases, especially during combat, activating W won't be easy, so going all-in with Bloom can result in missing damage, putting yourself in a dangerous situation. Therefore, if you're someone who enjoys snowballing, prioritizing Void Staff is still the better choice.

Why people are taking Voice on Evelynn and not Crypto ? It's because your role as Evelynn is to catch someone before the fight even start, thus, the healing factor isn't something you are looking for. You also don't need CDR on Evelynn. So two stats are already useless. You do need AP and pen. And Voice staff give you more of those.

It's always better to overkill then being short of the kill, because in a situation you create a 4v5, in the other situation you left your target alive, able to do whatever they want. Base, Teleport Back, Heal on CS/Jungle monster, still be able to shield and others abilities. And meanwhile you don't have your ultimate.

+ You are in a meta where damage are nerfed, so it's even more hard for assassin to do their job properly, spending a bit more gold on voicestaff from extra damage is good.

Because it's easy to burst a dummy and act like "oh well i did 3K damage on this bruiser, so i'm sure i will one shot him"
Okay, what about his abilities (own shield/healing/damage reduction skill) ? About his sustain ? What about the support (Lulu/Janna/Milio) ? What about the items of the support like Solari ? What about summoners like barrier and heal ?
