True Grit is one of the best-shot westerns of the 21st century, and to the surprise of no one, Roger Deakins was at the helm. He managed to tell a story through images without having the camera play a character, imitate what the light would have been like in the 1800s, and use colour to push an idea.

So, in today's video, I'll be looking at the equipment Deakins used, his use of lighting, as well as the look he created.

Deakins says that cinematography should be subtle too but his work is ironic, I don't think the visuals are intriguing because we are specifically looking for them.

How did he balance the Tungsten film in daylight scenes.I know that he doesn't like use filters Do you know anything about it?
